Morning All, just add a few views

I never was a fan of MS. An immense talent for sure, but far too arrogant for my taste. IMHO a flawed personality, exhibited clearly in his win at all costs actions vs Damon Hill in Australia, and vs Jacques Villeneuve in Austria... not sporting by any sense I understand. His antics continue since his return, even in the mid field mediocrity that is his lot, and this only suggests to me he still has this flaw even at a more mature age. So, I'm quite glad he has failed to impress, and is going out to grass!

I do like SV though, another immense talent and, until this weekends outburst on the podium, a gentleman and consummate professional. Hopefully, someone will "smack his hands" and normal service will resume... it should be his title?

I used to be a great fan of LH. Again an immense talent, a true racer, and fantastic first season performance for McLaren that so nearly delivered the title but for some novice errors. However, I'm somewhat disappointed in his recent transformation since splitting from his dad as his manager. It seems to me that he has been overly influence by the "celebrity life style" and the dollar (possibly the girl friend and new management?). IMHO it is a strange move to Mercedes given their performance since the take over from Brawn, and lets be honest Brawn's success was more down to the double diffuser fluke than building on a sound performance base inherited from Honda.

JB and FA also both great professional drivers. For me, FA just edges the "Best Driver" from the current crop. He has supreme talent, bravery and commitment, he's a racer and he never gives up.

BTW - I bet they all speak highly of me as a too!

Interesting sum-up MZ, the only issue is FA. I thought that his prima donna behaviour whilst being pushed by LH when they were both in McLaren did not really endear him to me.

I do however agree that he is probably the most 'complete' driver of the current crop and is certainly one of the most committed.

JB had quite the big head earlier in the career - he's matured into an all-round nice/professional guy from the looks of things. LH is seemingly getting blingier and more arrogant, describing Vettel as 'lucky' is sour grapes to say the least.

Still, not a new thing. Even now Jackie Stewart can't help himself being equally as rude, saying that even when Vettel matched his 'records' he wouldn't be considered a great because he had the best car. Obviously he won his championships with inferior machinery. Oh wait...

Vettel is clearly immensely talented as the drive on Sunday again proved. No one would accuse Webber of being anything other than top notch and yet Vettel has that extra couple of percent. Only Kimi and Fernando who rival him for me.

Yes indeed, quite dramatically once as I recall at Spa... and another exhibition of MS's sporting behaviour ensued in the pits!

I have a few ties into F1 through various non-senior and naughty people, I would almost describe each team as being a military unit rather than a business such is their focus and drive. I met a few of the last generation drivers when I was younger including MHak so it was interesting to watch many of these things unwind. I even have a few of the teams as customers so get to meet a couple of people around them from time to time.

Reading your observations around Fernando appearing surly when at McLaren I would have to agree I often thought the same. When he left he changed overnight and then at the same time the "ferrari scandal" occurred and Adrian Newey was thrown under a bus. Adrian does not have a bad bone in his body, he is the ultimate geek in a good way. You can see his work in Red Bull now which I still think is under-rated as part of the team result. I think FA was deeply uncomfortable with the situation at McLaren but professional enough to deal with it in a silent manner which is what a team needs. Yet now he is working at Ferrari, I do love a good conspiracy theory.

I totally agree re LH. Spit that dummy out big boy ! He migrated from his father (effectively neutral in the motorsport management world) to XIX (19) a "starlet" management company, totally outside the operational regime that exists. I do not underestimate Ross and MB F1 GP team but you do have to ask if this is going to be a good move from a championship point of view. Do we really think LH and NS are a couple, really ? His earings are bigger than hers for heaven sake. XIX are a professional management company and work on 10% or some figure of his income. What is the average lifespan of an act in their celeb world ? Cannot see this ending well.

JB is the real deal. Cannot find anyone that has a bad word to say about him. Kimi - he is Finnish, unless you have been there and met them don't try and judge them. They are different. Same way they probably think we are. Still don't care for him.

I never had any love for MS, always thought he was a slightly evil totally focused single purpose tool. Often thought he was just a complete tool, parking in Monaco was just fantastic to watch and yet all too often got the green flag when he did it. I would love to watch the result of a dark ally moment between DC and MS one night. I figure DC would go red mist and return a few favours.

I don't get Vettel, his outburst left me furious that in one fell swoop he took a totally professional sport and splattered its reputation. I hope some action is taken by the team. Maybe he had six too many Red Bull sugar drinks off screen. Tw*t.

Reminds me of a story told recently by Derek Warwick...
I think it was at the 'ring in 91, in sports cars, Warick and Schuii kept swapping pole positions in practice, Schuii got pole and then cut across Warwicks front corner taking it off. Warick drove on 3 wheels back to pits, jumped out of the moving car in a rage, ran into the Sauber pit and and aimed a punch at the wrong driver, who pointed at Schuii saying it was him. Schuii took off out of the pit with Warwick in hot pursuit, ran through a motorhome, out and into another one where he got him over a table. Jochen Mass was holding him back trying to calm him down, and everyone else was saying - go on, hit him !
Brilliant.

Attitude appears to go with the territory - Alonso, Senna,Stewart & Schumacher are very similar in make up for me Arrogant but succesful.

Mansell, Dam(i)on, Graham, David and Jenson have not enjoyed the same degree of success. They are or were very personable.

I exclude Hamilton because I think with the Mercedes move he will be travelling in one direction only, Rosberg I think has shown what can be done with the car but also that it is a long way off relatively.

Next year will be interesting.

By your reckoning Jim Clarke is a god by comparison.
