I haven't got one for the Mog yet, but my Vito, (although German) sports a poppy.

I have to say, I thought that the sung version of Elgar's Nimrod on the festival of remembrance at the Albert Hall was really outstanding. It made the hairs on my arms stand to attention.

Well, I ain't a huge fan of Union Jacks but I do agree entirely with the sentiments.
Really impressed that so many of my undergrad students have been wearing poppies this last week

I reckon your British Legion locomotive trumps all of the poppy wearing vehicles I've seen to date. Love the photos.

Half agree - dont mind the society ( if you arent prepared to defend yourself then you clearly dont value yourself) but for me both WW1 and WW2 are long gone and should be forgotten rather than re-invented on TV every other weekend. We need as a country to look forward rather than back.

Anyone know what the Germans do to celebrate the last 2 wars?

My wife and I went up to Rothbury in Northumberland y/day they did not have their rememberance till 2 pm , still called into the butchers and loaded the boot . After walking about a while we tried to get a bite to eat . Cafe closed so set off looking funny how some put up their price and others dont have one in the window . Stopped at a small village Long Horsley and went into the village inn . Sorry mate the carvery has all gone but can do you a Sunday lunch for £7-99 each . But you will have to be quick the Toon ( Newcastle United ) is on sky playing ? . Tried to walk past a load of men face's stuck to the TV with a couple of drinks in my hand , one bloke said his glass will be empty by the time he sits doon . I had spilt a bit froth off my half of black stuff. A great lunch open lounge room to ourselves and all the veg left off the carvery . After it had gone down we went over to a leather chair's in front of a coal fire I moved the cushion and tried to nodd off . But all I kept hearing was a language not known to earthlings , a cross between Geordie and Northumbrian . Wor young'an can dee better , pass the barl man , etc etc yet only one tiny swear word and the barman told him off . I felt like saying " do you mind Gentlemen we hate football and my good lady and I would like a little nap after that lunch " . But I decided to drive home I was not that brave. Well not as brave as the barmaid who said " give me a real man get the rugby on not those actors ". They never heard her .

It's within living memory, people can't be asked to forget the unforgettable. There isn't an arbitrary cut-off for when events become irrelevant. And speaking to someone who is alive directly because of WW2's events the resonance will live with me throughout my hopefully long life.

Looking forward as a nation does not involve being ignorant to the past.

My uncle was called up at 18 and sent ashore on the 6th of June. He made it through the war but was damaged mentally and physically and died relatively young from cancer. I would have absolutely hated being conscripted. My great uncle had the foresight to volunteer for the RAF in 1937 rather than be in the army, and he also survived the war as bomber command ground crew.
A colleague at work with a German mother had three uncles in the German army. One a tank commander, one a foot soldier, and one a sniper. I recall that only the sniper made it to the end. All soldiers are some mother's son, and each death brings misery, no matter which side you're on. So we should remember their sacrifice, because very few had a choice.
