My 1958 +4 has a driveline vibration at 3100 - 3200 rpm. I can feel the virbration mostly through the gear leaver in all gears at this rpm range.
The propshaft has been balanced and the gearbox mounts replaced. I have tried removing the cooling fan but I still get the vibration.
what would be the most likely cause? Any ideas.

Have you also changed the universal joints of the propshaft? On my 4/4 the needle roller bearings went with 70 000 mls because of neglect (and the same happened on my MGB)...

Damn Annoying! If it is a high mileage car and this idea above does not work then consider the Clutch / Flywheel out of true?

The UJ's were checked when the propshaft was balanced and were good.My guess would be the clutch/flywheel assembly.

Before ripping everything apart, it may be wise to make sure you havn't got a square wheel or flat spot on tyre at the rear!!

two add my two cent, with the 1970 Giulia of my wife we had similar symptoms and it was caused only by worn engine suspensions.

Get some paint and mark the axle and propshaft flanges. Remove bolts, rotate the propshaft to a different position and bolt up.

Then try again. Might not cure or point to anything, but it is the cheapest answer. Old books always told you to mark the propshaft on removal to stop vibrations from a mis-placed shaft.

I think that this advice would refer to the propshaft itself, if you were to separate it at the spline. The universal joints at each end must line up correctly to cancel out the speed variations caused by them running at an angle. I can't see that changing the position on the axle input flange would make any difference.

Anyway, the problem seems to be engine speed related, not road or propshaft speed, as it occurs in all gears in a particular, narrow, rev range. Something vibrating in sympathy somewhere, but I cannot suggest what it might be. Maybe something attached to the engine - exhaust pipe, dynamo mounting, fan belt????????? Or inside the engine - oil pick-ups, baffles???????????

Is the noise /vibration apparent when you are stationery?

Wheel and tyres are good. Wheels are Dayton wires tyres have no flat spots plus I rotated them front to rear.

I have tried rotating the propshaft to a different position. No difference. UJ's were aligned and the spline section marked when balanced.

The vibration is there while stationary.
