Actually, the bit that really gets me is the saying of London, England, or Paris, France etc.

There is no need to state the country for a well known town or city. I know there are places with the same names, called after the original, but if you really think a shot of Tower Bridge, and a caption London is going to make the audience think one is now in London Minnesota USA, then you really are daft.

Or Las Vegas.... Nevada

Look up. Tripoli. And see how many different ones there are and whe're they are located, that's one of the reasons the Country has to be stated, also it needs to be noted that like me many of you who have Business travelled or Driven throughout the world will be familiar with these places, looking at Maps and researching gives more knowledge. However if you look at someone who as only ever bordered an Aeroplane to a holiday destination you will see that they are unknowledgeable of anywhere in the world. Playing with the new iPhone only yesterday and swmbo asked me how does a compass work, she also regularly asks questions like , is Edinburgh up or down the Country ? ooo

Yes, as I well know from when we lived in Whitchurch Hants, (there are more Whitchurches in England than you can shake a stick at)....but the point Neilda was making is that it is unnecessary to patronise the viewer when the scenery in the background in shot is Buckingham Palace or the Eiffel Tower or some other iconic landmark.

Giles. Mogless in Paris.

Pandy, there will be them who have never seen nor heard of Buckingham Palace, especially up this end of the Country.

I am informed that 60% of Americans do not hold a Passport and do not know where the UK is !!

In that case it is quite pointless to declare "London England". They are just as likely to ask "Do they speak English there?". It once happened to me when I said I came from Australia banghead
