Colour looks a bit flat and boring to me. I know what you mean, but perversely that's the appeal to me. Since I'm not lucky enough to own a genuinely vintage patinated car, I like the old-school combination of a flat colour on something with curves. (When I recently picked up a car with special order 'Tweed Grey' paint - a BMC flat colour - I was ribbed by the guys at the Malvern paint shop saying "do you want us to put a top-coat over that primer?")

Must say my eyes went straight to the interior bits that hadn't even been given a little TLC. Shoddy approach.

So what's occurring here?
How can a B go back on the road? It simply cannot be a B. It must have had its nomenclature moved to C.
How/why/when and by who that this became fact is the question.
The car WAS repairable but the original owner demanded a new 'Max. Fair enough. So would I.
BUT, this car was not dead. It was not mangled at high speed. It was certainly in a condition to be repaired. Thus it was. Someone obviously decreed it be broken as a B which would have been a travesty.
What I find utterly amusing is all this VOSA ABCD malarky.
This 'Max I think is ten times better than say a 2.7RS. An RS that was smashed to pieces in perhaps '75 in a pile up. No lists then. Bought out of salvage and repaired. Then raced as a cheaper way into a clubmans weekend track car.
Then heavily thrashed, bumped, butchered, altered over the years plus heavily welded through rot in latter years.
Still not on any list.
Discovered in a damp East London lockup in bits and bodged to get an MOT in the early 80's
Sold to a muppet who liked a shiny 2.7RS. Parked outside a nightclub.
Then stolen, thrashed and stripped! Engine/Box/Fuschs/Seats gone...
Remains bought again off salvage
Still not on any list...
Fully rebuilt by an enthusiast correctly over the 90's with all NOS parts to concours level.
Now it's a really stunning RHD 2.7RS with half a new shell. Different engine etc etc etc.
It's all fecking big con this ABCD!! (in my opinion).
Yes it gets Ford Focus's off the road but there's plenty of dodgy classics out there and I think this 'Max whilst technically a wrong'n deserved to live.
It's card's marked. It will prob go to OZ and reg'd clean as a whistle. But everyone will always know it's had one!

You seem to be aware of the situation regarding Aeomax 38 - do you work for MMC, the insurance company or were you very friendly with the, now deceased, owner? Equally, are you the vendor of the car in question? For reference, the situation you allude to has happened to another car and it did not play out the way you've written it on that occasion. I'm looking forward to one of the people who think it is such a great car, at a very keen price, putting their money where their mouths are and buying it. As for reputation following the vehicle, I hope so because it deserves to. As for the RS analogy - anyone who buys one and is incapable of doing the basic checks, isn't buying with their eyes open, nor having it inspected by a professional (anyone worth their salt will have access to the RS book by Dr. Thomas Gruber and Dr. Georg Konradsheim and this would flag up all manner of warning signs if your tale of that specific car is even partly true). The same could be said for this Aeromax; get it inspected and call the relevant people (including the factory).

Just airing my views regarding a quite fantastic car. Not this one but generally. The Aeromax is a legend and will surely go north value wise after a few more years. Good ones... I used the RS comparison as a simple fictional example. You have two issues with a damaged car. One it's now damaged and Two, will it be written off. Old classics are like triggers broom. DB Astons are utterly rotten/hiding damage and are torn down to to their Superleggara frame and totally rebuilt. Massive surgery. Much more than this car. The new "game" of late is recreating historic cars from nowhere and then applying for the log book. RS1600's, Works Cooper S's , a GT40 Spyder I read about and dare I say many many more. All utterly crooked. They however are not marked as being tainted. This Aeromax is. This car is simply a victim of modern times. Looking at those crash pics it didn't look too bad. I can't see how a new chassis was required. The door gaps were good. I certainly wouldn't buy this car but in a perverse sort of way feel sorry for it being an outcast for ever more....

A-B-C-D catagories mean diddly squat, if the insurance companies do not get involved with a claim.
Here is a true story.
Approx 1988 i had a full flow 7 staff crash Repair Centre, working with insurance,Private and Trade. We used to carry out all the work for a Main Vauxhall dealer locally. One day we got a tele call On its way over to you is a Vauxhall Senetor 3.0, top of the range vauxhall app @£30k.
This was when cars were regesterd 1 Aug, and the call came in app 2 weeks prior to that date.
The car arrived on the back of a low-loader and was stuffed heavily in the O/S/F Wing, O/S/F Door, "A" Post was in 2", Screen cracked and full front end over about 4",in other words totalled.
The Dealer Parts dept called, What parts do you require for that car, your joking i said it's F***ked , no fix it they said, charge us what you like.
Here is the story, A customer had walked into the dealerdship, paid his hefty deposit on A car, he then was taken to the storage compound 5 miles away and asked to choose the car and colour he wished for, the Salesman and the Customer departed from the compound and left the Valetor to drive the car back to the salesroom to prep, whilst pulling out of the yard he was hit side on (his fault for not looking) hence the damage.
The car was not involved in an insurance claim, the garage covered the costs and the Car was delivered 2 days before the unsuspecting Customer arrived to collect.....none the wiser i may add.
Parts list as i remember
Front Bumber Full front End including all Lamps O/S Washer Wiper H/Lamp Motor Inner O/S Front wing Outer Front wing Chassis Leg strut and Suspension assembly Alloy Wheel& Tyre Screen "A" Post O/S/F Door O/S Sill Bonnet Repaired
Disgraceful.......but thats the Motor trade .
