It snowed here last night - pretty well all gone already, but more forecast for tuesday and wednesday. No worries as all our vehicles except the mog are fitted with snow tyres. Many of the resorts in the french alps are opening this weekend (a week early) as the snow is really good.

Stuart/Stewart i think your been a little unfair, no need for Snow in any of those vehicles, Drop the Landy in a big deep River , thats where it belongs , and throw the G up and down the M3/M4, i asume its Auto, at 70mph you can look in everyones window, whilst they look at the nice paint work and wheels. No need for

The queen's Defender had an automatic and V8 conversion, so it was hardly 'stock'
Def' + V8 + automatic = stock "50th Anniversary" As for the Queen, she has to drive British; can you imagine the uproar if she didn't.
I thought the family was from Germany...

H3, she doesn't have a 50th Def, it is a one of LWB 110 and my understanding is that it is a modern V8 but I might be mistaken. On your second point, where is the can of worms smilie? ...it doesn't change the fact they still have to be seen to drive British (despite most of the car makes they drive being overseas owned!)

G wagon is an over-priced Steyr driven round Stratford upon Avon by yummy - mummies who lunch. Defender is the real deal

Yes the Defender is the real deal. But a bit too 'real' for a 300 mile round-trip commute between Kent and Dorset with the family on board. But if I'm going on my own, it ain't the G that I take... ps - Easter: I can't get thoughts of an Elise Club Racer out my head. Silly name/graphics, but a lovely principle and pre-owned prices heading nicely south

Yes the Defender is the real deal. What have you done to it? You can tell it isn't stock and based on the plate, are you running a V8? Is it a JE sorted Defender?

The Def and the G are at 2 different price points for a realistic comparison.
The best 4*4(apart from mine of course) would be a Defender built like a G

Had a "G" wagon back in the mid 90's but overall I find the 110 a more meaningful work horse. Still love the look of the "G" though... seem to remember the chassis being manufactured in the Merc truck factory. You clearly have the best of both worlds. Which do find works best in the snow ?

are you running a V8? Is it a JE sorted Defender? Yes, it has an AJ 4.4 V8 and a ZF 6spd manual box. Was originally converted as an auto, wife ruined the 'box (story too painful to repeat) so I had a manual box put in. Benefit is MUCH better economy 300+ miles on 90 litres of LPG which is less than 20p\mile and cheaper than the G350 in fuel. Much quicker than the G too! But the G is so much more refined.
