When I was looking recently the best quote for a Roadster 3.7 was from Norton at under £400 (closely followed by Gott and Wynne).
Headley quoted me an absurd £1200, so I would not touch them with a barge pole.

Have you tried Headley I've been with them for 8years for Morgans and they seem fair.
15 years for me, no problems and the thin end of £400

So far, I've had one call back. That was from Direct Line, which quoted me £3k. Still to hear back from Headleys, IAM Surety, and the one that will go nameless! Though Headleys did call back to say that it might take a few days to get a quote for me.

Got a call back from the unnamed agent. £1,015. So, not so bad. Hopeing to hear from others soon, or I'll have to go with the rude ones. And I think my dealership put in a complaint after I rang them to let them know (I thought this a good idea, as they recommend said company to customers).

Crikey! Is he allowed to comment on your age? As I understand it since October 2006, it has been unlawful for employers and others to discriminate against a person on the basis of his/her age; note the catch-all "and others", and in my opinion (I am not a lawyer) it seems clear he was getting close to discriminating against you. With that in mind, you might like to cause him some anxiety - or at least elicit an apology. I, too, use Gotte & Wynne and am very satisfied so far.

Might not be good selling strategy but of course he can comment on age and take it into account in the premium. Thats what insurance is about - loading the premium to reflect the risk and part of that risk analysis is the age of the insured. Youth = risk. Only thing they cannot now take into account is sex. Not whether you have it or not. but what sex you are. Thats thanks to the EU.

I'm not complaining that he brought the age into it, I'm complaining that he suggested I was stupid to want a sports car.

but of course he can comment on age and take it into account in the premium. Hmmm...not sure about that. Certainly he can ask your age (and, as you say, this is crucial for the insurance industry), but he must be very careful about what is implied. And here there seems to have been an implication of personal criticism based on age. But what do I know...? Anyway, dogmanjack says it's not the age thing that bothered him, so sorry to have thrown in this red herring.
