Can anyone help. Can't seem to adjust the passenger mirror to see clearly on the near side. I've tried all the adjustment built in to the mirror and the stem but the only way I can see is to bend the stem to get the mirror low enough to get the correct view. I have considered buying new mirrors and getting away from the oblong ones fitted.

Thanks

One of the best safety mods is too replace the oblong mirrors with convex round ones. I purchased mine from John Taylor ( Miscellany ) and they are excellent. I have no connection with John other than a satisfied customer. I am sure other retailers do them as well.

I assume you've loosened the screw at the back and on the arm?

Some mirrors just don't seem to be adjustable to be of practical use. My driver's mirror wasn't great, until I replaced the lower arm with one sent to me by Meabh thumbs (the spring ratchet was dying in the old arm). Now I can set the mirror perfectly. Just seems odd, but may have something to do with the nylon insert in the arm not being in the correct place.

FYI - I also did a write up on my experience of how to fit them under "Round Door Mirrors" thread on the Classic Morgan forum.

The mirror stem is spring loaded into the mirror base. If you pull it towards the back of the car you can rotate the mirror closer to the door (side screen). You can then adjust it for a rear view. It is not the best as it is inside the line of the mudguards so you have to get used to the view but at least you can see the passenger side with it.

I hope that is clear.

Thanks to Mike (Metal Micky) who showed me how it was done.

PS. I had round mirrors fitted too.

Like NeilM, I have John Taylor round ones having got very frustrated trying to adjust the standard ones. I am very happy with them. Probably the best money spent on the Mog. Look good too! No connection BTW, satisfied customer.

When I bought my 4/4 from Ben Duncan he complained about the mirrors being hard to adjust but I have found the oblong ones are fine for me. It dawned on me though that he must be a good six inches taller than me, so perhaps its a bigger issue for taller drivers? That said, I find the existing mirrors a tad academic as the perspex windows are so scratched...
