Hi H Bear, welcome to the forum. I bought new, just over a year ago, and am really happy with that decision. A huge benefit of buying new is being able to spec the car to you liking, and for you being close enough to the factory you could see and photo it during the build process, and make it a family event.
New(er) cars have galvanised steel chassis, a stainless steel bulkhead aluminium panels and treated wood. All of which are worth having.
Whatever you do, have fun.

Please take the above with a pinch of salt. The product isn't perfect (very few are) but the experience you get over and above, as has been mentioned by others, is fantastic and virtually unique.

Of course nothing wrong with buying 'per-loved' either; and never has a corny car salesman's BS phrase been more apt in a Morgans case!

Welcome to this nice forum H Bear.
Had my first Morgan, a 1959 +4, for 28 years but decided to have a newer one. So, in January 2012 I bought a 2004 Roadster from Harpers Morgan and I do not regret it for a second.
Good luck whatever you choose. Car that is :-)

Welcome Bear. You seem to be doing your homework before buying which is great so you probably don't need this advice but I would suggest that if you do go down the pre-loved route, take someone along to look at it with you, preferably someome with Morgan experience. One can easily be carried away with the excitement and miss a few important points. Happy hunting.

Shropshire= Kevin Vernon. He is very knowledgeable. Recently I was in conversation with him regarding Plus Eights and his advice was to look for mid-late eighties. Build quality was very good then and wiring was thicker etc and ems's were easier to deal with. Go and see the car he is building for himself. A lovely man.

Find out as much as you can before you buy. Some things, like width, and classic hood vs easy up hood are far from obvious until you get into Morgans properly.
And although I intended to buy from a dealer, the car which chose me was an ex dealer demonstrator with two previous owners, so three in total in three years, purchased privately. In the world of Morgan this is not the issue it would be with a normal car. Some Morgans change hands quickly for all sorts of reasons. I've now had mine for four years and no regrets whatsoever.

These young ones have a lot to learn a Morgan is a mistress , you spend your last penny on her, oggle her, cant keep your hands off her and willingly climb under her all weathers indoor's and outdoor's , show her off to your pals, worry if she is not performing well , love the smell of her leather and rubber ,try to get her to perform better for you , swear at her when she does not , threaten to swap her for a younger one, but when she is on form you get the ride of your life and a grin that Warren Beatty could not match . By the way the wife is wrong I have never stopped spending on mine and it will be the same for all of the lads cant confirm about a 2 legged mistress dont have time for 2 but she would get jelouse of the 4 legged one instantly.

Thanks so much for your welcomes, and your collective wisdom. The in-laws live in the same town as Kevin Vernon's garage, so next time we are there I will slope off and make contact with him.

I'd also suggest a trip down to the factory and meet up with either Mark or Nick in Sales. They get a number of part exes in and are worth talking to. I bought my 5 month old car from them and got a very good deal.

I went to see Kevin Vernon this morning. What a nice man. He gave me a tutorial on what to look for, some good practical advice and showed me round his workshop. Hourly rate seems a bargain.

Time to start looking in earnest now. I found out this week that my great grandad had a Morgan in the 1930s so my 88 year old grandma is also excited about my Morgan "project". She has photos of great grandad in his car from 70 years ago.
