I use silicone brake fluid have done for 20 year dont seems to get any problems .

I have found that my car will not start and idle easily when very cold (gearbox in neutral, naturally). The last couple of times I have used it I have started it with the clutch in, even though the gearbox is in neutral, and once it has been running for a few seconds I can then let the clutch out and allow the car to warm up before driving it. I can only assume that the oil used in the gearbox is fairly viscose when very cold.

Hmmmm.... It's not at all practical to run my car after washing. I'd have to clean again. smile

The (long) drive to the house is in a dreadful state.

Sounds like a need for a DaveW Innovation for slipping between Pad & Disc each side when the car is being laid up for Winter? - Complete with Dashboard Note to remind 'Removal before Driving'?

Also, Would a spin/skim with a Fine Emmery Pad not be advisable before the first Spring outing while the car is still on the Axle Stands? idea

I do actually emery the inner surfaces occasionally which are now suffering light rusting, even with the dehumidifier. Apart from drying properly, the sticking and ghosting will remain a problem.
The problem with emerying is that the rusty particles float everywhere so it's messy. From time to time I paint the outer rim of the discs to try to keep this under control. It seems that the heat treatment which discs get as part of manufacture seems to stabilise the surface for a while, but once that has worn away, surface rusting is more evident. It's not much, and shows up worse by electric lighting. Maybe I should stop looking!
In my zealous days with the MG's, for winter I used to take the pads out and waxoyl the discs until spring. No problem if you do that, but it's a lot of effort to save the discs a bit longer.
In the good old days you could get your discs skimmed, and some discs would show the minimum allowed thickness in the casting. I didn't realise that my BGTV8 discs had been skimmed until I bought some new ones, but the difference in thickness was a bit scary.

Not only Morgan, Lotus pads stick to discs too. I live a mile off the road so driving the car after washing is a non starter. I try to remember to push the car forward or back a couple of feet the next day, before the pads have stuck fast. If they have stuck I free them off by pushing directly on the top of the tyre ( if I clean car on a Sunday this usually involves me mucking about before work on Monday wearing a decent suit and a good pair of Crocketts smirk2) Once freed off that's problem solved until the next time the car is washed

What.......a pair of Crocketts? rofl Lotus Drivers shoes!!!!!!!!

My motorbike suffers similar pad binding. I've cured that by using my leaf blower on the brake area....and generally to blow off moisture from the electrics and under tank areas. Works well.

I've just been out to the garage.... The affliction of the smitten Morgan enthusiast. It's horrid weather.

I think the solution of moving the car a little is a good one (thank you Easter). The car is so light, it's hardly a chore. Plus, I need to look at it daily to, er, make certain checks.

Neil, I hope your discs clean up... good luck!

Old BMW handbooks, too. My 1987 325i had exactly this recommendation - heat the brakes up with some hard braking before storing the car for any length of time.
