. Interesting to me as I know the area well. Not too sure what the relevance is to the watch manufacture though.
Their watches are based on an aviation theme. They provide pilot watches to various air forces around the world and their Martin Baker watch is tested to withstand ejection forces etc.
Obviously, much of it is marketing, but they are a British company and plan to bring watch manufacture back to the UK this year ( in stages - all Swiss at moment though assembled here)

I may be wrong but probably safer to crash land on rough ground wheels up. The whole thing seemed pretty calm. Not the best part of the country to lose your engine
Amazing ! Very cool character. I wonder if the undercarriage was knocked backed under as it made a heavy clomp when it hit the wall. The prop was knocked off. Wheels down would give more control in a successful touchdown, wheels up would be a good idea if ditching in water - and possibly in East Anglia !
Reading more about the Yak50...the official procedure for crash landing the plane is wheels up to avoid it digging in and flipping and crushing the pilot. The plane has been rebuilt so the damage to the airframe wasn't too bad and the engine seems to have been a write off prior to the crash!

Didn't James May go for a ride in the/one of the training Spitfires for his show on making a 1:1 scale Airfix model of one? I thought the plane in question was owned, and flown, by a lady who does flights for experience days?
Ps - I cannot recall if I mentioned it on this thread but Bremont made a special edition using parts of Spitfire EP-120 when it was in for repairs (obviously the owner sanctioned this and donated the take off bits! )
