The car my cousin was working on, before it was canned in favour of producing a diesel for the 'family' cars... It's a shame she will never see the new production vehicle...
As for the weight and complexity, I'll limit my interest to seeing the photos...
As for the original thread, I've had little dealing with main dealers - our local LR one was pretty useless (and as far as I'm aware still is - comes under the same banner in the subject line). And, I've just found not to trust my local MINI dealer either. I gave them enough clues that I know what's under a bonnet but they still tried to rip me off (and I'm one of many). So, I have very little time for large, carpeted, glass car emporia...

How are Stratstone able to sell a new Roadster (delivery mileage only) with a fairly high spec for about £3700 less than the list price for that spec? That's what they are doing with a new silver Roadster on their site. The other dealers won't like this and I am surprised that Morgan would allow it as it could upset their whole pricing structure. The car has Walnut Dashboard, 5 stainless wire wheels, radio/cd player, door pockets, mohair hood, metallic paint - all for £47,990.By my calculations the list price should be £51,727. http://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/dealer/stratstone-morgan-edinburgh/used/4222Must be some mistake here?

One of my sales peeps was ecstatic about the F-Type. I looked at it on the web site the other day and was shocked by the "upgrades game" they are playing against the base price they show.
The number of things you have to add to the basic spec of even the V8S top model that are standard on other cars around this price should lead to a session of name-and-shame. I like JLR but this is a bit of a piss-take.
Porsche are the same on the Boxster/Cayman with the best part of £10k needed to make it a decent car worthy of this level of investment.
He then saw my Aero and went quiet, rather loved it. If only the AeroCoupe was practical as a daily-drive then the F-Type+extras would probably have a fair fight on it's hands. When you think what you get for the money, hand built, real individuality, style - it does make an interesting fight. $XXXM's invested and volume vs shed+love. Odd world.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Just reality if you ask me. Who's going to stump up the thick end of £50K for a delivery mileage ( ie "used") sports car, in the depths of a snowy winter, unless he sees a significant - if not substantial - discount? I certainly wouldn't. Better to get your deposit down and wait out the winter whilst the factory gets on with the business of building exactly what you want, and take delivery in the Spring. Unless, of course, the dealer (Stratstone in this case) makes it worth your while As for MMC not allowing it ... they'd get seriously burned by the OFT if they were ever shown to be trying to restrict their dealers' right to price competitively.

If you know of other manufacturers with similar problems please share We have two soft tops - a Lotus ( loud groans from the rest of the forum ) and a Smart roadster. Both are more directly comparable with the moggie than a mass production soft top from say BMW, particularly the L car where production volumes are similar. Neither of them is 100% watertight but neither leak more than the odd drip when parked in rain with the wind in a certain direction. Neither leak at all when in use. Both have been reliable. The Smart 100% so and Lottie has just disgraced herself once when a plug dropped out of a socket. So really the leakiness of Morgans isnt up to snuff these days but then the hood construction and side screens on a Trad is straight from the 30s so what do you expect? Its either "not up to scratch" or "part of the charm" depending on your outlook.

That assumes the OFT know which end is up. They dont. Try getting a discount on a Harley and indeed on many other things and you will fail because the OFT bare ineffective when it comes to RPM. London based lawyers rather than widespread police types..

Stratstones car isn't being discounted...its effectively second hand, NOT new so MMC would not be able to influence price. As Nick says, it's winter, not the best time to sell a sports car and with the value dropping on a new car as soon as it is registered, the price seems pretty ok to me.

I had forgotten the effect that first registration can have on a car. I guess Morgan demonstrator models are quite hard to shift as well. Still seems a pretty good bargain for someone...

Howard: I did precisely that when Harley were at the height of their powers in the UK (quite a few years ago now). Bought a new "Terminator Black" FatBoy in deep midwinter, when tumbleweed was blowing through the showroom (OK - I know - bad mixed metaphor ), and did a very fair deal all round. Dealer was just happy to turn over some dead stock and keep the doors open. They can't always wait until Spring: there are wages/rent/rates and stocking charges to pay. Morgan dealers are no exception. I've no doubt the factory knows that too.
