I was lucky enough to have gone to the Goodwood Revival in 2011 and witnessed the 10 Spit's take off flyby and land. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0c1kVxQJBYwAn emotive sight and sound that made your spine tingle and mind race thinking of all those boys that never came back. Paul Bonhomme current encumbent Red Bull Air Race Champion piloting one and thoroughly enjoying it. Makes a nice change from airliners I guess, although he does lots of aerobatic shows of course.

This years Revival is featuring the big bangers with Massive Collection of GT40 (originals) racing - Galaxies in quantity etc. For those of us that grew up in the Ford Le Mans multiple success years this is a must if at all possible, I shall be there getting deafer by the minute just drinking it all in as close to the pitlane as possible.

One of the great joys of my life were the nights, during Le Mans, that we sat in the Tertre Rouge Bar listening to the big V8s (Corvette, Panoz etc) accelerating off down the Mulsanne Straight.
We used to meet at midnight and see if we could make it through to the dawn, before heading back to Bartertown (sorry - the Cowsheds) to grab a couple of hours sleep.
The sound of the cars, firstly going down through the gears for the corner, then disappearing into the night was awesome.
I would have loved to have been there in the mid 60s with the GT40s

Were you there in 2002 Bud when the Aero's first raced, the sound from their side-pipes as they accelerated was spine-tingling and resulted in me ordering a Series II Aero to get those side-pipes on a road car!

Here's a scanned in John Jordan (as in the Millers sadly taken a couple of yrs back) photo racing his at Snetterton emerging from the chicane in 1968 (my first efforts at Telephoto lenses), and sounding like something you could hear in Valhala. We were lucky to live through this era of Coombes 3.8Mk2 Jag's, Galaxies and John Wolf (as in Alloys) and the amazing Gerry Marshall in a quick Vauxhall embarassing the stratified company on circuit - oh boy it was a real man's world then.  And a couple I found on a search at Snetterton with John Wolf the year before he got killed in 1969 at Le Mans.
