Is it not possible to order a lhd model direct from MMC? I haven't asked yet. Before doing so I would like to understand the pricing. My first preference would be to order the car at the local dealer (because of the future relationship). But if the remaining difference (after some negotiations) is too big I wouldn't hesitate to order the car in U.K. Picking it up at MMC and drive home would be a nice start into a Morgan ownership .

Michael, one thing you may need to consider is the local taxes that maybe affecting the headline purchase price. Reding some earlier threads this can be

Whilst I appreciate that I am in the UK, the same priciple might apply here. I ordered my M3W through a dealer, but collected it from the factory myself, had a free tour and generally was much more involved with the car. I also saved the delivery charge of around £350 or more for my trouble. I do have a trailer and suitable tow vehicle, which helps.
Surely, things shouldn't be so difficult for our european friends to do something similar and at least know they aren't be shafted on delivery costs. [Although I suspect it would cost the same to to it yourselves!]

@ asbojohn: A good hint!
Yes, there is a difference, but "only" 7%:
The VAT in Austria is the same than in the U.K.: 20%.
In addition to that there is a tax related with the fuel consumption: For a 4/4 (avg. 6.4 ltr/100 km) this is 7%, for the +4 (7,3 ltr) 8% and for the Roadster (9.8 ltr) 14%.
With regard to the a.m. example 4/4 this would explain (together with the 5% "lhd surcharge") ~12% difference. (b.t.w.: I haven't found a rhd price list in GBP. Are the 5% plus for the rhd correct?)
If I take estimated costs for transportation of EUR 1500,- this gives another ~3%.
Where do the remaining 15% come from?
Any ideas or experiences?

Is it not possible to order a lhd model direct from MMC? The answer to that is yes. But then you have to do all the documentation and obtain the plates etc.yourself. If France will not allow you to register the car just with the documents and tax paid (in France)then you will have to get temporary UK plates and insurance or have the vehicle transported on a truck. We were fortunate in that Italy allows this sort of registration and we were able to go to pick up the car armed with our plates and insurance. A warning. Under EU rules you must pay the tax in the country where the vehicle is registered. If anyone wants more information PM me and I will try to point you in the right direction.

Getting export plates is pretty straightforward. The factory is fully versed in doing that (or at least they used to be) you can drive in the UK for 6 months on them as well

It is all about Tax. If importing a car into Ireland, for instance, Vehicle Registration Tax is a whopping 25% on top of the after VAT price!!!! Makes a Plus4 almost €55k

Michael
I agree that these large differences in price are not normal. I suggest you contact Brands Hatch Morgans and ask them to give you a price for the car that you want including LHD (they have supplied several cars I know to Europe). If you local source is not prepared to be more aligned with this price, then vote with your feet!
Cheers
