If you cars are quite new (under 6-months old), the recommendation is not to polish them as the paint is still soft. Even after that stage, it is worth buying a wax/polish that allows the paint to breathe; otherwise you can get into trouble with vapors being trapped by the wax layer.

I've found Alex who runs Serious Performance car care products to be great for advice. His prices are also excellent and often has things on offer that he can recommend.

I've got to say the what wax to use is a bigger decison than buying the car.


Reading the handbook and threads on here if I use the wrong polish the paint will fall off

Saying that, a S1 Aero 8 I have seen had peeling paint on the wing mirrors, so using the right stuff may save thousands, bigb question what is the right STUFF.

How about a poll on who uses what?

If you are a member of the MSCC you can get a discount on Zymol from the Parce Ferme the european agents. If you want them to detail the car for you they will give a discount to this and if you really ask nicely you can get Chris Bailey who works for them to do it (as he owns two Mogs!!)

Although I know it is not everyone's favourite I've always liked Zymol and like it used when I have the car detailed. In fact Phil (Speedmog) got it prepared in Zymol Vintage for the NEC Classic and it looked super imho.

A photo of the finished article, I love both the depth and the 'wet-look' that you get with Zymol, though I don't think that I'll be rushing out to buy a tub of Vintage at £2k a pop even if that does include a lifetimes supply. :

Wingmirrors seem to be prone to stonechips on the aero - I've picked up a few here and there. Seems the wingmirror can be right in the spot where a stone flicked up from the front wheel will hit. Price you pay for driving I guess!

Some aeros early on seem to have suffered with soft paint, others here know more about this dates etc.

Mine should in theory be one of them (I think), but no issues so far. I've steered away from heavy wax use and gone for the occasional Autoglym shampoo wax and polish ever 4 months or so. A good wash is usually enough to make the car look like new
