I keep a passive dehumidifier in the Golf - blue crystals when dry, clear when wet, and this works really well. Thanks for the tip. My wife has a Skoda Fabia that suffers from copious water drops on the inside of the windscreen. A well-documented problem with VAG cars (especially with Honest John in the Telegraph). I'll get one.
