I took my bonnet strap off when I had the Supersport bonnet fitted. After refitting it yesterday....and deciding that it didn't quite work with the new bonnet....I noticed some corrosion starting where the strap had been fitted to the body. I suspect that water had remained trapped and soaked into the leather and sheepskin where it is clamped under the bonnet stop.
So...worth checking!

I no longer keep the side screens on my Mog for the same reason.
I was getting a bit of bubbling around the front side screen mounting on both doors, I suspect that damp side screens were providing the electrolyte to produce the electrolysis reaction. Now rubbed down, etch primed, resprayed and reassembled with copious Duralac with no recurrence.

Looking at it again this morning I'm sure that no matter how careful you are fitting the bolts holding the strap and bonnet stop, you are bound to end up chipping the paint in the hole. I always grease the bolt but I guess the smallest chip exposing bare alloy and then water being held against it with a damp belt will end up with some corrosion. Its probably best to cut away any sheepskin or felt lining just where it is clamped down so that water is not soaked up.

I removed my strap this morning and it's quite clean.... But then it's fairly new. I've decided to leave the strap off for a while and see if I prefer the view. More testing required on this sunny day.

Jays, Thank's for the warning, I have just been out into the cold garage to check and, as my strap was fitted during the build process, it is rivetted using the wing fixing so I hope that will mean no rust!

So...worth checking! Yep, mine was down to bare metal but covered in a thick grey paste. Still the same! BRIAN - I also have corrosion down both sides of the front windscreen holders and I always keep side screens on  , but as my daily drive and 02-07.00 starts typically, I dont have the time to take them off (or at least put them back on), so I will get Williams to do some work on the this summer. At least I know "why" now, thanks. Jeremy

Strap off. I cut small pieces of rubber to fit under the 'stops' to prevent the metal bracket rubbing.
