Spot on post Jay,

I think that when the supply of live axles dry up a De-dion set-up should work with the trad chassis. That's what Caterham did. As far as legislation goes, whilst the MMC continue to fit in with the low-volume exemption then they are exempt from the more esoteric stuff - pedestrian impact, TC, air bags et. At least that's my understanding.

I'm a big fan of the trad. I like the way it handles and everthing.I've found that if I jump in it after a modern car it seems all clunky with lots of drawbacks but after a few minutes I feel as if I'm driving it better and this feeling continues. So I get a real enjoyment from (re)learning how to drive it each time. This is what makes me love the car and this is what I miss in modern cars which effectively remove the need for driver skill (even parking themselves now)! It's insidious - parking the mog yesterday I was instinctively waiting for the reversing sensors to bleep and luckily remembered in time that I haven't got them.
So I say yes to modernisation on new models but keep the old technology as well; leave the trads alone.
Having said that:
I'd like a wider body on my roadster - partly because the wings look too wide to me. As you may have noted from my other postings I love the drophead coupe look; but I don't think I can face the older car so, like Dave W, the 4/4 2 litre is almost my perfect Morgan. And wouldn't it be nice to be able to shut the door in the rain without having to hold the hood up - anyone perfected a finger saving technique?
Lastly, more ground clearance; my first Mog (1986) hd a completely flat underside; no sagging sumps!

I'm new to Morgan and chose a Trad at the last minute having been close to buying another XKR convertible (the 5L version).

My view, albeit one not honed through years of experience, is pretty much as Jay said in his most recent post on this thread. Not a daily driver and a classic without the drama! I've had a couple of classics and they were more temperamental than the moodiest teenager.... With the added problem of eye wateringly high costs if anything went wrong. The Trad is a classic, but with a modern engine and electrics. Zero refinement (like a classic) and peculiar handling (like a classic).

It brings a smile to everyone who sees it. It's British (yay!) and is huge fun to drive on country lanes.

I do worry that Morgan might find their 'they all do that sir' response to any technical issues is going to wear rather thin at their current price points. If warranty issues are handled by the finance people then the current loyal band of followers might eventually consider other marques.

As to upgrading the suspension.... Yes. They should. If they can do it without disrupting the delicious lines, why not? It would be better. Amd that's got to be good.

I'm quite happy with Tudor engineering - but if one day it evolved, I'd not think less of the car.

Am I rambling?!

As my daily / only drive (bar swmbo VW T4 camper when the weather is appalling) I'm very happy with my 4/4 Sport EXCEPT the crashing rear suspension over pot holes and bloody speed humps.

A totally modern underpinning with Trad clothing? No thanks, just keep updating as always.

Cheers

Jeremy

Swapping my standard dampers for a set of GAZ adjustables has made quite some difference to the ride quality. I do treat speed bumps with great caution though!

I purchased my 4/4 because i like the idea of a classic car that doesnt cost a fortune to run and is not likley break down (i have not been let down in either respect so far). as for modernising all the running gear, im not sure why. sure, its not the drive of a 911 but its still a very enjoyable car to drive over any distance. i dont think i would want my morgan to have the same feel as a non descript generic modern car. i would feel cheated, a fraud. i hope that everyone wins and gets what they want, especially the people at morgan. but im happy with what ive been sold.
