AERO ELECTRICS IN THE SNOW.
Hi all and many thanks for your suggestions. Following on from my recent post about blowing the 50amp fuse on my Aero 8 MkII in the snow and the subsequent shorting out of the wiring loom. I have attached some photographs as requested of the loom concerned and its location inside the nearside wing. Owners might like to check the point at which the loom passes through the aluminium power steering compartment wall, or at least ask for it to be looked at when the car is next serviced. There are three pieces of rubber around the triangular shaped aperture but my wiring still chaffed and shorted out. New loom is now encased in conduit.

Many thanks for your follow up. The chaffing looks like it was very advanced, obviously just waiting for a wet day to find it out. I am printing your pictures for the file. My car is due a service in May and I will be keen to watch over shoulders to see if there is something similar under my wings. Incidently is your power steering motor an original or is it an upgraded electric version. I have not seen either of these.

To answer your question about the Power Steering. It had a new Electric Motor fitted some three years ago but think it replaced one which gave up. Does the Series II not have Electric Power Steering as standard. Not sure but I thought it was only the SI which was'nt fitted with an electric pump.

My series 1, I believe, still has an original mechanical power steering pump. Not sure if this is good news or not, the factory have done conversions to the electric version so that sounds like it is a better job.
