Ok, There are some serious issues been discussed on in the arms at the moment. This really is not a major issue, but it is really bugging me now!
I've had enough of automated PPI calls. Even through I know better, I actuaully pressed the '5' key on one of these blasted automated calls to speak to someone, when I was called in the middle of a meeting yestreday afternoon.
The 'operator' first of all told me that I had called them. I informeed her this was an out right lie, and asked to speak to a supervisor.
The supervisor, admitted the call was from dialed from another company and that they (the third party) would receive a commission for calls. I asked for my number to be removed from their (or any database).
This afternoon, I got a call from the PPI company saying I had asked for a call back. The operator, would not accept that I had not asked them to call me, and would not listen. I eventually asked her to shut up and listen (which is out of character for me), at which point she informed me that I could not stop them from constantly phoning me, and that they would continue to do so and hung up.
So, here is what I did, first of all armed with their phone number I made a complaint via the
Information Commissioner’s Office site.
Then I did a little research on the company and found (without spending any money) the MD's home address. So I signed up with FunkyPigeon (the online card company, part of moonpig or vice verser) and sent her a very politely worded card asking them to distist from calling me. The wording was very polite, I threatened court action via small claims if the calls persist. I included my mobile number plus my home address.
Not sure if this will get me anywhere, but if it does I will let you guys know.
I am registered with the telephone preference scheme from
Ofcom, but the call I receieve was after office hours, so I will call them tomorrow and complain to them.
For anyone outside of the UK who has bothered to read this far, PPI was a form of insurance sold with loans some years ago, to cover payments if you lost your job or could not pay for some other reason. The UK govenment decided that these policies had been misold and millions(billions?) of pounds had to be set aside by the companies who sold them, to pay potention claims. Now various UK companies break UK law by cold calling with automated systems saying they have ugent news about your claim. They take a percentage of any claim if you are succesful. But actually you could go direct and keep 100% of the compensation if you were due any.
They don't actaully have any details on me, I think they just dial ram=ndom phone numbers. Typically I have been recieving about 3-4 of these calls a week for the last few months.
