I discovered today that my brake lights(both of them) arent working.
I have checked the fuse, which is ok. I have not checked the bulbs as yet, but whilst its both lights that are not working, my guess is that its not that simple.
I am guessing it could be the switch thats failed, where would I find this on a 1988 4/4 4seater?
Any other ideas as to possible issues gratefully received!

The 2xBrake switches on my 2009 Sport are on the rear of the pedal. One for brakelights tother to let the ECU know not to supply fuel. If not there on yours we will think again.

On an early car it will be a pressure actuated switch in the brake hydraulic line. On my Plus 8 it was in the engine compartment on the driver side towards the front.

On my 2002 +8 I had my pressure actuated switch replaced with a mechanical one, got to the point where I was replacing them every service. Cost approx £50 incl fitting.

My 2005 roadster got through pressure swithes with monotonous regularity. In the end I wired a mechanical swith replacement. I used a fridge light switch (reasoning that they're designed to carry 240volts and work about 3 million times before failing) to a small block of wood and fixed that in front of my brakepedal. It works perfectly. Shortly after I did it the factory changed to a professional version of what I'd done. I think they have a spy camera in my garage.

cheers chaps, after posting I had a perusal of morganatica and gomog, I have been able to locate the switch, and happily it seems one of the connectors was loose - so all fixed now
