Hi all,
I had an interesting chat yesterday with a man who claimed he finds the handling of the cars without spare wheels much tighter. He said that after driving a sport model he felt the extra weight of the spare wheel and the woodwork that supports it made a bespoke car feel wallowy at the back.
Anyone driven the two types back to back and noticed anything?
Must say "wallowing" isn't a word I'd have naturally associated with my roadster but he was quite genuine....it's interesting innit?

I've driven both back to back and found having the spare wire wheel on the back gives me a better sense of being planted on the road. The extra weight seems to give slightly improved weight distribution. But I haven't driven any Morgan 'on the edge' as I don't have the nerve to do so in such an unprotected cockpit!

Whilst I'm sure you could tell the difference with/without spare (especially the stainless wires ) if the handling is wallowing I would say there are other issues with the suspension, I drove a Roadster quite rapidly around Northern France in very wet conditions last Easter with alloy spare and a fair amount of luggage behind the seats and at no point did the car wallow

They are much heavier than the alloy version.

I always competed with the spare wheel removed - but that was to save weight.
But from very early on, the 4/4 was fitted with a panhard rod to control side to side movement. Something I'd suggest was a good modification even with only road use

I had a Healey 3000 which handled best with a bag of cement in the boot.
