Good day all, i seem to have acquired a squeak, not sure of location exactly sounds similar to a loose fan belt but leaves when i disengage clutch. Problem is also intermittent so difficult to pin down and chances are when take in to workshop it won't happen. Model 2012 Roadster with 4000 fun kms. Just a thought could it be the throw out bearing? Also can be quite loud at times and other times barely noticable. Any help/advice graciously received cheers Randall

It shouldn't be the throw out bearing after such a low mileage, but these things happen.
Try to locate it when it's loud.

Could it be the belt on the alternator? Can you see if it's tight? (Engine off of course)

Is this a new 3.7 Roadster?

I may have alternator issues on mine - and I know that Ford have had issues on the Duratec alternator.

Do you take Vicky Butler-Henderson with you in the car?

it seems reasonably tight has maybe 1/2 inch movment in center between alternator and engine. more louder after have given it it a bit of a wind up. must be of the female persuasion

Won't cure it long term, but some keen plant growers have a thing that sprays water on a plant's leaves. Spray the belt with the engine running - if it's that, silence will very quickly be effected.

It'll wear off just as quickly, but an industrial ironmongers will have some spray on belt dressing. Or you could mug a passing violinist as the belt dressing is usually basically just aerosol rosin (in solid form, applied to violin bows).

apply Engineers french chalk to either side of the "V" it will last a lot longer than any liquid

Engine at idle in neutral. If the squeak goes with just enough light pressure on the clutch pedal to only just start to disengage the clutch, and stays not squeaking all the way to fully disengaged but then returns as soon as the clutch pedal is fully released then it is possible that the squeak is related to the clutch tangs/fingers and the release bearing. With a release bearing just catching the clutch tangs then sometimes a sort of ringing can be set up as the tangs/fingers vibrate at high frequency, then with a bit more contact of the release bearing they are stopped from ringing. If it is that then there is no great problem. The ends of the tangs/fingers will wear slightly over many many miles - just a thought. PJB

Many thanks guys will give ideas a go,i didn' mention that the car is moving when squeal arrives so not going to be an easy find. But will just have use car more maybe i can wear it out. Cheers

If it squeals on acceleration it could be a loose fan belt as you suggest mine does it when very cold.
