While the trad shape of a Morgan has remained, the "bits" underneath have changed constantly. I for one would welcome a better front suspension set-up and will probably try the rising rate stuff, but I get a smile driving my car as is, so I'm not unhappy with what I've got!! I have no philosophical issue with any updated component and if it improves the driving experience I'm all for it, and if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg I'll probably try it, but it isn't going to stop me enjoying the car that I presently have in it's present state.
More power to those who innovate - it provides an excuse to have a good discussion!!

What's wrong with the current front suspension How are you finding the roadster front suspension so far ? I should have mine next week so I'll post my thoughts (weather permitting) Nice and firm. I drove over a coin and I could instantly tell that it was heads. I love watching the front bob up and down as well. So far so good

Absolutely wonderful when you find a newly laid section of road with nice smooth curves and no bumps, like a well maintained race track. Otherwise, on the average road, ok if you still have all your own teeth and a healthy spinal column, don't mind suddenly skipping sideways towards the guard rail when pushing hard in a corner, or worse skipping sideways where there is no guard rail, don't mind having to grease it regularly and replace the bushes and king pins every so often.
Don't get me wrong. I love the Morgan experience but, if they produce a 2015 Plus 4 with 200 hp and wishbone front and independant rear suspension, I would certainly consider buying it. I see no reason why the existing steel chasis could not be re-designed to accomodate independant suspension all round. We have seen the development of the front in this thread and the US Morgan Corvette has independent rear suspension.

There is nothing wrong with the suspension on good roads, but on bad road surfaces I find it harder to keep up with normal traffic speed than when driving a Citroen 2CV. The new three-wheeler feels much better on bumpy roads and clearly demonstrates the advantages of a modern IFS.

Robbie, I couldn't agree more - I get a smile just thinking of my car (in the winter garage) and Soleng: You mean the 2CV is more modern  - well, I know what you mean, I have decades of experience of 2CV - happy memories.

Interested in what SimonH (Hi Simon - we have met & talked on this subject) said that the sliding pillar can be made to work, sort of. Well I know it can actually be made to work quite well actually - though it took us over 2 years of spring rate and damper development and thousands of miles to optimise, ok there are limitations with stiction even with good bush material and lube - I think we all know the problems...... The race engineer who tested the Mulfab IFS and published the first article on it in MSCC Miscellany also road tested our 'mid development' rising rate spring set up. He rated the ride at least as good as the Mulberry double wishbone set up with no handling detriment on the road. (It was a normal road test not a track test). We have developed it further since for even better ride and less roll matched with a specially tuned damper. This is a matter of 'horses for courses'. The geometry advantages of a correctly optimised double wishbone suspension are clear, but enormouse improvements in ride and roll stiffness over any factory set up can be achieved with a rising rate spring combination with a damper change. Four well established English Morgan dealers and two Morgan specialists have driven the test car with the rising rate springs and tuned damper and all have been very impressed with the excellent ride, high roll stiffness, no bobbing up and down of the nose, no crashing through potholes and the price. As they say, you pays your money and takes your choice. PJB.

Really does sound interesting PJB,but on asking a dealer about it - one of your posts suggested it being available through dealers in April - he knew nothing about it, and had had no bulletin from the MMC about the system!!! What actually is the situation and when will the kit be available??
