Hi and congrats.
I have a '93 Plus 8, and also wanted to change the gear knob. I visited the factory in Feb and bought a nice shiny new shift knob. If you do this be sure they give you the one with the correct shift pattern, i.e. Reverse to the left of first. fortunately I checked it at the counter and they had given me the incorrect one, but they did have the correct one. It's a bit pricey and does not screw on, it has 3 grub screw that when fitted, are hidden under a chrome sheath that screws up over them. It. Does look good and is a reasonable match for the brake lever.

I too am a recent new owner of a Morgan. Mine is a Plus Four and it has a luggage rack fitted.
I think your idea of a nice suitcase on the back would complement your car but, when it rains, you will end up with a less than stylish soggy suit case.
I have a pal who is a "Land Rover across the desert guy" and I was chatting to him about luggage. He has loaned me a thing called a Peli case. It is black and water proof as well as bomb proof.
I looked these up on google and eBay and they are a bit expensive. However, if it meant that all your clothes stayed dry, on tour, then maybe they are worth it.
I also have a BMW bike and it has BMW panniers; they make the Peli case look really good value!
Just a thought for you.

I thought of a hard waterproof 'Samsonite' type case too - but preferred the look of a vintage leather one. Cheaper too. I just need to find a cover for it....

Don't believe anyone answered your gearbox type question... Reverse to left and forward is an LT77S. To right and back is the later R380. May you have many happy miles! Cheers,
