Managed to wiggle one front wheel off yesterday after much bashing with the hammer and large knock-on wheel spanner. Does anyone have any tricks as to how to do this without significantly damaging the knock-on chromed hex nut?

It's quite a tight squeeze and I had to deflate the tyre to get the wheel off but managed in the end. Not something I'd want to do for the first time by a busy road - bear this is mind!

The hub is covered in grease which you need to protect. A plastic bag and rubber band is probably a good addition to the tyre inflator kit bag (I will be adding this!)

My black front wheel arch cover was pretty filthy inside and these will definitely benefit from cleaning after a winter / salt if that applies to you! I had tried to fire a hose up during the winter but that doesn't clean it sufficiently.

My front hubs have rusted quite badly after just a few months and various bolts are looking a bit sorry for themselves. Now this isn't a major problem of course, just unsightly and given the exposed nature of the wheels with the wires I was hoping to paint the bits just inside and around the hub (not the brake disc of course!).

Has anyone found a suitable paint for these bits - I tried Hammerite but it didn't feel right so I wiped it off?

Have touched up the front suspension a couple of times already after 6 months ownership.

Also cleaned inside rear compartment - again muck everywhere and salt has marked the aluminium tanks a bit. Again worth cleaning inside here.

This car needs a lot more cleaning than any other I have owned if it is not to deteriorate very quickly.

Having said all that it's so easy to get at things and I thoroughly enjoyed playing Spa beautician to the little darling even if she could have turned up a little less filthy.

I use black waxoyl on track rods and the exposed bits at the front underside - shield brakes with card whilst applying =- needs redoing about every 6 months or so. For chips on the wheels I use black gloss engine paint -withstands heat and does not need a primer - could well do for other black bits as well.I use cotton buds for small touch up jobs then throw away after.
