Sorry I don't. When you say thread do you mean on the grub screws or onto the shift lever.

If its he later the knob isn't threaded but fits over the shift lever. I bought a red 3 pool ball off eBay to fit the Mazda box and it screws on think it was £10. Not the right red mind so I'll be swapping it a black 8 ball

Shift lever, I've been looking at various shifters but most ask for the thread dia. & I can't seem to find which version of the mx5 box is fitted i.e. mk1 2 or 3.

I really like Michigan, except for the weather sometimes.

Wow great post - and great discussion...many thanks Blake for posting your impressions.

I'm flying out to Scottsdale in two weeks for a M3W test drive...was planning on ordering then if I like the car, but I must admit that your post does give me pause...

I'm in Houston, and having no dealer in the state of Texas does concern me. I do wonder if it might make more sense to wait a bit longer before ordering and waiting for some of the niggles to be fettled...

I'm also wondering if the purchase price might not drop with time. $40k for a toy of questionable build quality seems a touch crazy - but not completely nuts. I'm starting to wonder whether this car isn't overpriced at $55-60k USD...

Anybody out there want to sell me their used M3W???? cheers

Thanks Blake - you've given me a lot of food for thought...

crowbar, I do know of one member who was looking to sell his car already in the US. From what he said, nothing wrong with it, it just doesnt fit his frame. Ill see if he still has it and have him reach out to you.

As to the weather comments. Its already in the 80s F in Sunny Florida, not sure what all this cold weather talk is about...

Phew! I've just come back from a long weekend at my sisters (just round the corner from M-Z funnily enough....and having met him a few times I'm sorry he's decided to leave TM).

I'm not going to add anything to the debate but I have a complaint.

I was happily deep into a good book whilst away and was looking forward to finishing it when I got back....you know the type, one you just can't put down. Decided to quickly have a look at the forum last night, found this and couldn't put TM down! Lost the thread on the book now read

After 10 pages or so in a couple if days it's time for a grouphug

Well it just goes to show you can't leave us for long or you miss all the 'fun' smile

FWIW Philips account (M-Z) has not been deleted nor will it be, he is free to come and go as and when he pleases.

Thinking about it I don't think we have ever deleted anyone's account? Other than spammers of course.

Cheers

The gear knob from a Honda S 2000 fits the MX 5 thread on an 'N Reg' one if any help. Go steady in case my memory has gone but I'm sure I did a straight swap several years ago.

Peter

This is who / what I ordered and this fits. Might be worth asking them the thread size.

Blake, it sure has been interesting watching this thread unfold.
I had a similar experience with my new 4/4 and to be honest I think you have got off lightly given what has happened with Morgans down here.

You have every right to be angry and disappointed. You have identified the issues and made your feelings known. Having been through this exercise may I suggest the following:-

1) Most dealers have pride in their product and want a satisfied customer so try and engage your dealer (and if possible the actual mechanic) in a way that they can see this is possible.
2) Clearly detail every issue and your expectation for resolution in writing.
3) Ask specific questions if you are not sure what has or is to be done.
4) If you get offhand, evasive or dismissive answers don’t let it pass.
5) If you can’t get a response that makes sense get professional advice and/or an inspection. There are plenty of automotive engineers who know what is expected and the law. This proved invaluable in my case.
6) Finally, and perhaps this should come first – join or contact your nearest Morgan Car club. Ideally this should be done BEFORE you buy if you have little or no knowledge of the marque.

So you have identified the problem, now for the fix!

I suggest Morgan may need to consider that a new client can become their best customer (and advertisement) OR their worst nightmare and it doesn’t take much to push it either way.

I for one will be watching (as will the global TM audience) to see which way they take you.

Keep the posts coming and keep smiling – they really are great little cars when you eventually sort them out.

Ps my bet is this will be sorted very quickly. Heaven knows how many sales have been lost just on this experience alone and you will hear the collective slamming of potential new owner cheque books if it’s not.
