The rear fog light on my car stays on all the time: I've never used the light. The switch seems to operate as it should etc. It shows on the dash that it's on. The lamp is illuminated. It will not switch off (i.e. the lamp doesn't extinguish.) I was thinking that maybe water from a wash has got in someplace and is making a circuit complete? There seems no obvious damp around the dash etc - but I realise that's not a confirmation one way or the other. Anyone experienced similar? Any thoughts? (2012 Plus 4 with 6900 miles) Cheers

Hello Mark, I have the same problem and it is not solved yet. So, I took off the bulb. But the light in the push button still lights all the time. When I press the button it never stay in, so I think I need a new contact button. Do not know where to buy it and do not know how to change it. I probably have to find a car electrician to help me. If you get any advice please let me know. BTW I have a 2004 Roadster. Ken in Sweden

Hi
Had exactly the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Fog light (and switch light) stayed on despite actuating the switch. Fortunately mine cleared its self after a while and a considerable amount of poking around, disconnecting the battery and repeatedly actuating the switch. I don’t know if I’m correct or not but I came to the conclusion that it was a sticky latching relay issue in the fog light control box. I believe there is such an item hidden away somewhere behind the dash. I questioned the switch first but then twigged it was probably a momentary switch and not a latching switch like the others.
I now exercise the fog light circuit every time I jump in the car just to check and all now seems fine.
Good luck

Ken and Roger,
Cheers for that. I'll put a post on if I come up with any more information.
Thanks again.

On my 2003 4/4 there is a small electronic "instrument control module" somewhere behind the dash - Part number MDE 1750 In 2007, two years after buying my car, I started to have a number of strange faults (warning lights, odd instrument readings) but one of the faults was the one reported in this thread. My local dealer (Berrybrook) replaced the module and all the faults disappeared. At the time, the unit was just under £100, plus half an hours' fitting time.

Mark, That shows what happens when you venture south to Howth!!! I would suspect either the switch or the connectors at the back -- My 2009 Plus4 had similar issues with the reverse light and it turned out to be the connectors Cheers! p.s. sorry not to have been on the run -- Shoulder surgery 6 weeks ago!!

Robbie,
I asked Peter if you were coming to the run and he was telling me you were recovering. Wish you a swift recovery and hope we meet up over the summer. The guys had a few ideas for Mog days that sounded great.
Get well soon.

Budster,
Yes I think I'm going to have to explore in there. I'm relieved that others have had the problem and it doesn't seem to have set the car on fire quietly in the garage on a stormy night. Just a glitch I guess.
Cheers.
