For want of a better phrase - it is a case of 'they all do that sir'?
Backing off the (light) throttle onto the brake, or vice versa, they car audibly and physically 'clunks'. Engine or gearbox mount possibly? Only happens at low speed and having only ever driven it 3 times and for 150 miles in total, I am not sure whether it has always done this!

It shouldn't do it - but I don't know what the problem might be.

Mine's a 1993 Plus 8 and it definitely does not do that. I suggest you check your prop shaft UJ's.

If you have wire wheels check wheel nut is tight, if tight check splines as they may be worn. If possible get someone to listen to hear or watch for the clunk.

I have wires - will check the nuts before my next drive. Sad to have a problem so early, hopefully something minor... but sound like it may not be. Just had two very expensive driveshafts on my other car

Check the U bolt nuts on the rear axle for tightness, the axle can move fore & back &/or rotate with power on & off and give a 'clunk'. Did on mine after some abuse! PJB

No abuse except living in West London and having potholed roads and speed bumps everywhere!
Who and where is my local trusty specialist from the West London area?
