This years dosh will be spent on suspension and brakes... next years dosh will see me with an MK dash hopefully.

In the meantime, can I brighten up the interior of my Plus 8? I thought the dials and gauges would look nice with chrome or alloy surronds as I have black dials with black bezels on a black plastic backing plate and a dark walnut dash.

Can the cetral plate that holds the dials be swapped out for something like engine turned metal..?

And where does one find white/cream dials?

TIA smile

Many places, bezels can be hard to chance and may need to be machined off. However mine just twist off and the location tabs become free.

Many online places sell them but Melyvn Rutter might be a good place to start.

I fitted chrome bezels to all of my instruments and it made a world of difference. A bit fiddly but as long as you're patient perfectly achievable at home, I used a dremmel to get the old ones off and the new ones just "folded" over the rims. Got mine from Rutters, they also do white/cream dials but they start to get expensive.

Hi

When I ordered my dash I carefully packaged all my instruments(insured as well) and sent to Matthias, he arranged for them to go to a chap just down the road who removed and pressed chrome smiths bezels on them. I tried people in the UK but was twice the price and 3-6 months wait.

Hi Marcos,

When I recently up graded to a walnut dash I decided I did not like the appearance of the existing crackle black finish of the central oval instrument housing and I toyed with the idea of plain aluminium or with a swirl pattern. Very easy to do, just take pattern from original.

In the end I decided to simply cover the existing metal plate with leather of the same type and color as the upholstery as in pics.

cheers

Neil

Hi again Marcos,

Just found the thread from the time
I replaced the dash. Link follows.

Cheers Neil.

Thanks Neil, some interesting discussions on that link.

My leather is dark red (Rolls Royce red apparently) so would blend into the walnut a little too well I think. I am convinced I want magnolia dials to go with the Ivory bodywork and they come with bright bezels so that problem is dealt with.

I assume a piece of thin textured sheet metal would be OK to add, although how do you break the recessed panel out of the dash - it looks like it's epoxied or painted in..?

Onto switchgear. I think the 90s saw a nadir in design and the car is equippned with the ugliest, large black plastic switches ever devised. Anything out there that can act as a direct replacement?

Are Allon White set up for this sort of work as I am planning on having some trim done by them anyway!?

I agree with you about late 90’s switchgear - not the best era for Morgan dash designs. I suspect Allon White, along with any Morgan dealer, could do the work - but they are best known for their trim work. Give Phil Benfield at Allon White a call.
