So... I guess I owe many here some kind of apology for not listening to your advices.
I bought this car, and got it home in my garage today.
Last weekend I traveled to see a -78 4/4 2 seater in good condition. It was not far from the red one above here so I thought I'd drop by and see it as well. After seeing them both I concluded:
* I wanted a project, not a Morgan in great condition (as the -78 was)
* I fell in love with the early dashboard instruments (brown on cream, before -62 I think, when they turned white on black).
* Generally I really wanted an OLD car.
* And also I prefered 4 seater and Triumph motor (really have no explanation why I want the Triumph - maybe just because it is british like the car
)
* Left hand drive
The good news: I think it might be in a bit better shape than anticipated. The wood that I have been able to inspect feels and looks solid - but I will strip of metal and check. There are some rust - but it does not look like its gone through anywhere. Mechanically I believe its in at least ok condition. There are some "sweating"/leaks, but I believe its from bad gaskets after standing still for many years. Lastly I did get the price down a bit.
The bad: I have not gotten it to run yet. But have barely tried. Owner, and the shop selling on behalf of him has promised it runs fine. I have no reason not to believe them. The owner drove it to the shop last summer.
Of course I have allot of work in front of me - not sure if it will be 6 months or 5 years - as long as I enjoy it it doesn't matter.
Next on the list: get it running so I can drive it and get a feel for the condition. Then plan out a work plan on what to do (and not do). I want to keep the patina on it, not make it like new - really want to keep the old feeling of it and as original as possible. But it does need new paint - so at the end I will have it professionally repainted.
There - thought you all deserved an update, especially after
the scam I almost fell for. I am now a proud Morgan owner! Will try and give some updates along the way - but it will be some time before there is anything to show. Have to get garage more looking like a workshop first
By the way: My impression is that there are not allot of restoration discussion on this forum, or am I just not searching good enough? Are there other forums where one can discuss with other doing restoration that anyone would recommend?
