Richard- Downsides? Not really except that it pays to keep your collar buttoned up in summer in case something gets in there and stings although that hasn't happened to me yet. With both aeros up there is a fair bit of buffeting but with the drivers only I feel that there is less than with the screen on. I'm heading for six foot so one would expect to be clouted occasionally: falling acorns get you anyway. I love my aeros and I'll post todays pic for you now. Regards.

Thanks for all the information meabh and photograph of your handsome car, you have convinced me now that Aeroscreens have to be fitted for the Summer at least.

As I use my car all year round I think the windscreen maybe will have to go back on for the wet Winters that we have here.

Regards

The moustache gets a bit frozen in winter. Just one thing I meant to add: I have used Simmonds screen mounts because the ones which came with the screens seemed to move (although that might have been a fault of mine0 and the Simmonds ones are rock solid. At certain speeds there is a tendency for the screen to fold back and finally rumour has it that it goes much faster without the big screen. Others can confirm or deny that. Have a good weekend.

I've been waiting 2 years for Steve Simmonds to get a new batch of screen mounts made! John +4 has them on his car as well and they do look so much more secure than the ones that come with the aeroscreens.

Thank you meabh for all the essentials regarding the Aeros - looks like a set of Brooklands screens from here : - http://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/products/460-container-brooklands-aeroscreen

and some Simmonds bases by the sound of it as I do intend to travel faster than 60clicks ph.

We have an annual Dartmouth Music Festival and it was this weekend, so yes thank you we had a really good one. I hope you had fun too and the week ahead travels fast for more fun time at the weekend.

The bases that come with the screens are quite secure if you cut away the rubber padding under the leather trim so that they fit down onto the scuttle. Aero Racing do that and feed the top of the base up through the leather trim. The only concern I have is lifting the trim off as its glued and held with some fasteners.

Thanks for the extra information here Jay I fondly imagined I had seen the mounts screwed directly onto the leather.
Perhaps this is the easy but non stable method as suggested earlier.
I would share your concern with lifting something that is glued down on a relatively new car also.
Getting the feeling that I have to get the kit and get started and see which method will suit best at the time.

Regards

A lot of cars I've seen do have them bolted down through the leather and rubber padding. I don't know how much the base might move with wind pressure. Once you start drilling you are past the point of no return scared The screens come with screws....they do need to be replaced with bolts...and large washers.

It may be another year before Steve Simmonds gets round to having a new batch of mounts made .... Be warned, they cost more than the screens, a lot more! He told me that the bolt holes are the same as the standard feet so the scuttle will not need re drilling.
