Well done Douglas. As someone who has insurance but dislikes claiming for anything, the price of a relacement screen, should it crack, would mean a definite claim. I hope that MMC, plays ball in the future and clarifies the cause of these cracks, so we at least understand and if posible take actions to prevent it occurring. As we will all end up paying with increased insurance premiums. Aren't most windscreens only a minor/no excess and do not count against any no claims bonus? If so I would claim each time...

My thinking is we pay for it in the end.

Well done Douglas. As a legal man I totally agree with your stance and actions. It's very disturbing that Morgan failed to honour these claims and breached their own warranty. I am surprised as I believe them to be a wholly honourable company - I don't know what went wrong here. A disturbing precedent and omen for the future. I agree it is a bit surprising. I have had a couple of small issues that Morgan has resolved without any problems at all. My only criticism is that, on some occasions, I did not get a timely response to my emails. The windscreen issue seems to have been something of an exception and perhaps relates to them having problems with their supplier. In March last year someone at the factory, can't remember who, admitted that they'd had a problem with a batch of screens but that it had been resolved. Fortunately it seems to be very rare with the easyup hoods.

I popped in to see Steve Simmonds this afternoon on way back from Malvern to chat about aero screen mounts. He has given up in frustration over getting anyone in the UK to manufacture the mounts for him and is now turning towards China. So it looks as though it'll be some time before he starts stocking them again. Discussed my broken screen and he is well aware of the problems; stocking some spare screens for the later cars. He believes that it is a Sport problem with uprights pinching the screen allied to body flex.
I was surprised to see that he has ceased his hood business and is now concentrating on steering wheels and components.

That's a surprise, Steve not doing hoods....is that because the easy up from mmc is too good? I'm still thinking the cracked windscreen thing is to do with having no spare wheel mounting frame....the car must flex more without those heavy bracings..... Nick

If the car flexed enough to distort the windscreen frame, surely you would see stress marks on the rear bodywork? I think that it is more likely a bad batch of windscreens.

Well thanks to a contact on TM I travelled all of 1.5miles to pick up my brand new Brooklands Aeroscreens from the original manufacturer - I had no idea he existed down here. Thanks Malcolm, John is a lovely chap to meet and do business with. He is an MG man but well there is room for us all Dave. Really looking forward to fitting these and a bit of drilling Jays - I'll carry out a bit of a survey first though He has one of his Bluemell type steering wheels with MMC at the moment for possible fitment on the M3W it's 13'3/4" and looked very smart and more in keeping IMHO. This is John's website for a look see at the steering wheel options or screens :- http://www.johnkimble.co.uk/main.htmNo connections other than a satisfied customer.

I'm looking forward to seeing where you drill! I took some measurements on a car at Simmonds and it seems a bit tight! Good luck!
I'm off up to the Outer Hebrides tomorrow for a couple of weeks walking and photography....on the motorbike..NOT the 4/4 so I'm sure you will have fitted them by the time I'm back!!

Have a great trip Jays it's lovely country I've spent many happy hours waiting and touring at the company expense for the weather to clear so that the aerial riggers could do their work erecting reserve transmitter aerials of 63Mtr. I had to wait on the build to enable the mobile coilhouse to be tuned and the power transferred over onto the reserve array whilst the Main Tower 100Mtrs was overhauled. Barra and Harris were my favourites - landing on the cockleshell beach never ceased to thrill as the seaspray "whites" everything out for a second or two. The joys of CalMac from Ullapool to Stornoway before you drive on down to Harris - I hope the weather is kind to you and you get some great pictures. Hopefully I shall get a go at the screens - we have No2 daughter and fiancee next week so nothing will get done then for sure. Probably send you a template of where not to drill I might even mount them on a stainless demountable strip yet I will decide when I get the windscreen off and see how it lends itself to this as a solution. p.s. I got used to drilling new Morgan as my Sport had no tonaue fitted - it followed on 3 months after so I drilled and fitted it myself as Henry Williams was not overjoyed with the firm he was using to carry this out at the time. Regards

The windscreen on my Mini cracked today when a pigeon decided to see how hard it was. The crack has appeared on the top left. I have decided to sue the morgan motor company.
