I'm hoping to change mine for a wooden one but so far haven't been able to get the original one off , I've seen a picture posted on here of the threaded collar, but can't seem to shift it, any helpful suggestions? Or am I just not trying hard enough ?!

The knobs in 2 parts. The lower section about 8-10 up should unscrew. Once you've done this you should be able to get to the grub screws to take it off. Good luck.
Not sure if this helps or not but I seem to recall when last at the factory noticing that the new gear lever ( those with the new layout) aren't threaded. May have been my imagination but can't find the pictures now.
