On my Plus4 I had what I thought was a metallic screech from the door -- it was actually from the rear of the bonnets - once I put a good dollop of Vaseline on the bonnet tape it disappeared!!

Cheers! The first job I saw Berrybrook's ace mechanic do when my 4/4 went in for service, was. . . you guessed it! Apply Vaseline to the front and rear bonnet tapes. Bud __________ 2003 - 4/4

Thanks everyone for the advice. Last night I liberally applied Vaseline to the side screen fixings and took the car for a spin. It was better - but after 10 minutes the scritching sound crept back. So I pulled over and tightened the side screens again with the tommy bar. I already thought I had tightened them as much as they could go ! After that the noise stayed away - I drove for 20 minutes over some pretty rough roads so I am hopeful that I have discovered the problem and a solution. The much quieter cabin meant that I discovered other noises that had been masked by the dreaded scritching sound  But these are not as annoying and might be caused by the bonnet tapes so I will apply Vaseline there as well. In fact, I might as well keep a tub of Vaseline in my glove pocket - it seems to be an essential piece of kit for the Morgan driver.

My old man used to say " if its not clanking , banging , knocking or giving off any noise it's broken . He used to have a 3 wheeler ( BSA ) .

Vaseline on the bonnet tapes is a recommended owner maintenance item. It makes a huge difference, lots of strange squeaks just disappear. Also grease the bonnet catches especially the fixed lower part.
The sidescreen panels do rub on the body paint just behind the doors, so I put some 3M body protection film there to protect the finish (I bought a small pack and it will do several applications for this).

Ok, so I still have the rattle. It's slightly better than before, but still there and gets worse as I drive. I also have a tooting noise which I think is coming from the leaf springs. It was always there when going over large bumps but now I have it on small bumps as well.
I have Vaselined everything in sight. My car is a moving blob of Vaseline on wheels but I still have the sound. Neil (Neilda) took my car for a spin on Saturday and thinks the noise is coming from the suspension (incidentally we also established that my engine makes the same odd noise as his at over 3500 revs).
I am going to take the car to my dealer to see what he thinks.

Oil the leaf springs? This used to be a regular task on old cars (I remember doing this on my 1957 A35 in 1971), Landrovers etc.

But I don't have any equipment to ramp the car up with to do the job. If its simple enough hopefully the dealer will put it right.

Oil the leaf springs? This used to be a regular task on old cars (I remember doing this on my 1957 A35 in 1971), Landrovers etc. I have found it best to use motor bike chain oil...easy to apply and works a treat.
