I can't make up my mind whether, with a retro car like the Three Wheeler, one should customize it in a 'period' style, or, as much as possible, bring it bang up to date with modern additions.
I know that owners and owners to be, see it both ways, and on the one hand, it is a bang up to date, modern car, ie. full electronic engine management, disc brakes, 5 speed all synchro box, alloy rear wheel, modern rubber, aircraft style instruments etc etc but on the other, it is styled like a prewar car, sounds like one, but crucially drives better than any prewar car has a right to.
Where do we all stand on this, and what are your reasons?
If you plump for the retro look and feel, which I think the vast majority of people will go for, are we all actually living in the past, and is that a good or bad thing?

I had a similar discussion at the weekend about my older 4/4 and an Areomax owner. The Areomax owner was advocating installing power steering to my 4/4.
My view is I want my "toy" to be different to a daily drive, something special. But that doesn't mean I won't strive to use modern technology to make it more reliable.
Seems I'm close to sitting on the fence!

Imho..At the end of the day, it's all about what YOU want it to be.
Does it really matter what anybody else thinks? Just enjoy driving it.
It can be both, 'old' old or 'new' old but it will never really be a 'modern, hi tech' car. If it was, it wouldn't look anything like that or be made like that.
Even vintage vehicles benefit from subtle modern improvements and those tweeks are appreciated if one propperly uses the car...

I don't think it matters what anybody else thinks, ie whether they are critical or not, but it is interesting why they will approach something in a certain way, in our case customisation of the Three Wheeler.

I agree with the view that your M3W can be whatever you want it to be!!  With my car I have decided to keep it "modern" as I feel that adding retro customising could make the car fall neatly between the two stools. And I prefer the "modern version" look.  But am sure that many will go for the retro appeal - and why not?!! Just enjoy your M3W the way u want it!!

Not a three wheeler, but when looking for a trad Morgan I pondered long and hard about whether to get a 60's or a new car. In the end I chose a 1991 +4 (with a Rover M16 engine, fuel injection/ecu) as it is still, in my opinion, close to an older car re drivability yet has 'some' elements of a new car - better mpg and supposedly, better reliability. It was also cheaper, ie better value for money.

Exactly my thoughts. If you want modern, buy an MX-5. If you want character, with reliability and a strong flavour of 'motoring of old', buy a Morgan.
