I reckon that we all do the same thing - when in later years we finally have some spare dosh, we go back to the things we liked in our formative years. That why I still go for 60s /70s music. Its why you go for Morgans.
Your daughter will, ifshe has any interest in cars, likely go for classics like the Clio Sport. Or the MX5
And yes - the trad morgan is a business dead end. no long term future in it except as a curiosity.

I agree the Trad business will need some consideration but I don't think it is a dead end. Morgan are a business and as long as there is an audience and it makes a profit in line with their needs as a business it should carry one as the embodyment of the history of Morgan.
It does however need to support their forward looking investment against monstrously increasing legislation. It should be a cash cow for them.
Re-birthing it in the opposite direction of the Aero would be highly relevant. You mention the success of the MX5. I would also add the Mini and Fiat500 both of which trade heavily on retro with comfort, reliability and low cost of ownership. No one said they were cheap to buy.
They appeal to a certain style (I hesitate to use the words lifestyle) and joie de vivre. That's a nice thing for Morgans brand values.
If you think of the Aerial Atom as the end point and find a point on the line somewhere between the Trad and an Ash Atom it could be cool. Clearly it would need to pass impact and other modern regs. The M3W is paired back to a minimum and is successful. Perhaps something like the 3cyl EcoBoost in this would be a great change.
I often wondered if there should be a "kit" Morgan. The M3W is nearly there already. It would allow a cost point below that of current cars. If the car was designed with this model in mind as the M3W has it could be a good extension of the product range.
Exposing the wood and other materials like an Atom would be very cool. Poach a newbie from a University to do some sharp pencil sketches like last time and you are off ! Offer a build service in conjunction with the dealers (more integration with them would be good for everyone) for lazy less capable people like me.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Are you not all making the assumption that in 20 years time we'll still have access to petrol at a reasonable rate. Now my two ( one at uni and one about to go ) both want to drive the 3 wheeler but I just can't find anyone to insure them . I can get them insured on a + 4 though at a lower rate than the other cars on the drive, but this will result in war between the two of them.

If it was legal to would you underwrite them yourself ? just a thought It is legal but the money required is serious. When I worked for a big multinational thats exactly what they did . They self insured their car fleet using Eagle Star just to administer it and deal with other parties. But given that a serious claim can cost £10 million, you can see why only Abramovich is likely to self insure his kids Morgan 3 wheeler. On a differnet topic, when I said the trad was a business dead end I wasnt being critical of the car at all. Seems to me that for an old style car to be popular, a repro car if you like, it has to tap into potential customers who can relate to it. In most cases but not all it has to evoke memories of youth - what you wanted when you were a lad. And as time goes on, people's youth memories move with them. Whats more their expectations move on too. The Morgan Plus 4 was a car of my youth along with the TR4 and the MGB and the Healey 3000 ( seen the price of one of those recently? ) so I would like one now I can afford one. My son would not consider one - he thinks of cars of the 90s. So FWIW, I reckon that demand for the trad will fall as the pool of potential; owners ages and is replaced by people wanting more recent nostalgia.

If demand falls then at least these cars may become more affordable for those who can't muster the considerable expense they represent at present. It was 55 years before I could do it, and I would have done it much earlier if prices had been closer to mainstream classics.
