swmboJnr on the phone last night Uni Year over . I was telling her about the young lad who cleans his dads mog in return for a drive. Then she started telling me " I was brought up with mogs dad but its for old men , like you ( thanks )nothing to attract the youth of today who are the customers of tomorrow ." They are to costly hence you have to be in a good job and wait till your morgage is paid ". I tried to explain it's a small firm and the only way was to keep lifting the price . Yes dad but what about the young why dont Morgan play to them we have our in crowd and non drive mogs WHY , she had a point. If I had the cash today I would not buy a mog , I would feel out of place with all the old people . Trying to tell her she would be as welcome as the flowers in May hit a stone wall. . She was going to have her way so I just shut up and let her rant . She reminds me of that song IF I RULED THE WORLD. I had to think I was 21 once and had the same views age takes them away . Could not help but shut up public school educated and 3 year in uni giving me a dressing down on how life should be in words I dont understand . She forgets I am her rough diamond street wise old man ( Dad ) all that fancy talk goes over my head. But she did have a point we dont see any or many young people anymore when I joined in the mid 1980s I was in my 30s some lads 20s . Cant help but think it is going to end up as a dads hand them down to the family car.

This is an interesting topic, I think the three wheeler may help,it is expensive but judging by my 2 boys (and their friends both male and female ) enthusiasm for it ,this may draw younger people in . Against this is the fact that you can't treat them in the same way as a 'normal'car, most of them never consider doing any kind of maintenance. Also a lot simply find the costs of any sort of car too high and loose interest.

Surely the issue of attracting young drivers is in three main areas.

Most buyers of new Morgans are attracted by the "vintage" sports car look. Quite rightly, as much as they may admire the classic cars, young people want a modern look.

The second being that these days the younger people do not want a hands on maintenance experience. They just want to drive it and take it to the dealer for service. A traditional Morgan is seen as something that requires time and attention.

And third: Price!!! As JTL's daughter has said most young people simply can't afford it. Prices are going up faster than income and there is little discretionary money left at the end of the month.

Perhaps there would be a market for a small sports car using a drop-in front wheel drive package, including gearbox, front suspension, steering, brakes etc. and independent rear suspension. Fitted to a space frame chassis, with a composite superform and wood body, wind up windows and an optional hardtop. In other words a sort of 4 wheel equivalent of the modern 3 wheeler but with the motor out of sight. The new 1 litre 3 cylinder Ford EcoBoost engine would be ideal for this. A package like that would really appeal to the new generation. As many parts as possible could be sourced from Ford. A sort of a re-bodied superlight 2 seater Focus. idea
