Re Insurance ....

Gott and Wynne have been by far the best of the ones that I have tried, and I have been with them for well over 10 years now ...on and off. Unfortunately the car is going to be just over the £50k mark and that seems to bring a tracker into play according to Gott and Wynne.

However I'll give Headley a try on Monday.

Cheers guys ........... Pete

Mines with Headley and the prices are a little better than those from Gott Wynne

It is worth reading carefully the posts on this forum to make sure that the constant fiddling that the S1 requires (and the overall low build quality also called by enthusiasts here "charm of handmade cars" ;-) is something that you will be comfortable with.

Also make sure that the people looking after the car (and those respraying what needs to be resprayed) know what they are doing, have good contact with the factory, a good coffee machine, a warm waiting room and a few magazines. You are likely to see them so regularly they might become your best friends.

:-))

All that aside, the car is a great drive and it attracts loads of sympathy from many people everywhere you go.

I've owned quite a few +8's and even the S1 Aero will feel like a Phantom compared to a Trad

I've never looked back....Aero is awesome

+1 - when my Series 1 comes up for sale (soon I'm told) I'll seriously consider buying it back! flag

Love my Aero S3 to bits, and it's been basically very reliable once the 'fettling' was done (this was actually rather a pain but it was a few years ago now...)

Only problems I've had are water and fluid leaks that don't ever seem to get quite sorted despite quite big bills!

Car seems to be going better and better and I love the handling and of course the noise.

Recently I've had some bubbling under paint especially round rear lights and on trailing edge of rear wheel arches. 2007 car. This is about to be sorted out I hope. I've seen similar on others.

Overall I love the car and it always feels special.

Thanks for the note wiscos ..........

Hopefully the fettling has been done by previous owners of the car, as the car that I am looking at is a 07 Series 3. I will keep my eye open for water and fluids and also the bubbling that you mention..... I had a good look round the car on Saturday and could not see any areas on paint problem, but I will take another look before I take delivery.

Cheers ........ Pete

Check on the very bottom of front wings a foot or so behind the front wheels as well. I wonder if stones get thrown up and pierce the paint protection, or it could be from lifting the car at dealerships...

As far as I know all this is minor and just cosmetic but also expensive and a pain to fix. My car has 14,000 miles and has had a pretty pampered existence.

Pete

I have had a S1 and now a S3 - both needed some fettling and I guess this is to be expected . I agree with the other posts once done -they seem to be very reliable

My S1 had some corrosion around the lights too - just cosmetic
The hood was replaced on the S1 and seals on the S3 - I wouldnt expect the car to be water tight like a BMW - although that said since mine was sorted its ok in heavy rain

Wheels on the S1 are magnesium and have centre lock wheel nuts which require a large force to remove - not just remove a few nuts to clean them ! They are expensive too if they are damaged 600 quid each to replace new if you can find them - Repairs need to be done by a specialist who can do mag wheels

The engine in both is superb - long legged and great for distance touring -

Starter can fail on S1 - common issue see the threads on here

Loads of info on this thread so have a read

All of that said it the most exhilarating morgsn I have driven - refined ,comfortable , great road holding so dont hesitate if you have the chance you wont regret it

Also they are rare - see our register

Best Regards

Gajet

Hi Gajet,

It looks increasingly likely that I will become the owner of a Series 3 this coming weekend.

Thanks for the link to the aero8register ........ I will take a look at this later to see what is on there and to register my car when I get the full details.

I look forward to getting it out on the road as the short test drive was pretty good.

Best regards ......... Pete
