Hi there,
Hope you can help - the fuel guage in my 96 +8 is rubbish, filled to the brim the guage only shows half full, and seems to show a different reading every time i turn on the ignition. Is this a common problem with +8s and I just have to live with it or have I got a problem that is fixable? This is not something that has developed the car has been like that from the moment i got it several years ago. ( My previous car a 4 4 was also poor in the fuel guage department)
I reset the trip indicator everytime i fill up to give me some idea of when i need to fill, but that is not very reliable, and i dont want the fuel to get too low in the tank.

It is a common problem on trad Morgans and seems to vary between cars. I believe the shape of the tank and does not give a linear reading from full to empty. The only answer is too calibrate the gauge and the sensor but that involves twiddling with the sensor in the tank and all the inherent dangers involved with petrol. I am sure someone has discussed this before on the forum, so it might be worth a search.

GoMog has something on it but frankly both my Trads have done that though full is usually 3/4s.

I use the odometer, it also helps chekc consumption

My gauge shows past max when full but varies a lot when cornering!
I have not checked the gauge for accuracy but may do. On the old car(4/4)it never went above just over 3/4 full,I drained the tank using the drain plug and added measured amounts of petrol and noted the gauge reading.

My 2000reg 4/4 is similar, full to the brim shows 7/8 on the guage, but at least it is consistent. Down to 1/8 on guage and re-filled tank with only 30lts, tank capacity quoted as 50lts. I also tend to go more by the trip reading and start thinking about a filling station at 250-300 miles. Gerry.

The gauge on my 1999 +8 hasn't worked for about 10 years , I did carry out a repair to the sender which is incorporated in the pump , this involves loosening the rear of the rear springs & removal of the floor boards under the tank,then dropping the axle & tank sufficiently to access the pump/sender - a pig of a job & the repair only lasted about 6 months so I top up the tank every 200 miles.
If the sender is ok the gauge can be calibrated to full - empty which will involve a lot of filling & emptying if you don't want to remove the sender. - best leave well alone
