Gentlemen:

we are planning to go to London for a few days in July (around 4th - 12th).

Can you recommend a hotel there?

Wife and two teenage girls are not terribly interested in motoring or technology like aviation museums.

What area of town are you looking for.

I´ve never really been to London before. So I don´t really have an idea where to stay. Maybe walking distance to some attractions or a shopping area.

What is your budget

I guess we rather adjust the duration of our stay there than going to a real cheap hotel somewhere out of town. I expect London to be quite expensive, compared to Paris or Berlin for example.

What are your priorities in a hotel.

Closer to the centre of town, quiet rooms preferred. I don´t need a big lobby, workout area or fancy restaurant in the hotel. We could go for a B&B as well.

Will you have transport or be using the grimy express (underground)

We will probably use the underground or buses.

I had a look, but couldn´t really figure out whether or not the hotels are in a useful location. Are there no-go areas? We wouldn´t like find a nice hotel, but situated in a business area with no restaurants or maybe a park in the neighborhood. I hope this somehow explains the situation.

Lots of choice but budget will play a big part. If you fancy a room with a view you could always try here

Tower Hotel

Probable typical London rates. Alison stopped in town recently and I'll get the details for you.

I would recommend somewhere reasonably central. You should be able to get good deals at a few places. I stay in town for work occasionally despite living reasonably close by and suggest the following from experience.

Pestana - Chelsea bridge. Usually good rates. Quiet but not too far from centre of town. Good rates usually.

You could also try the Cumberland.

It's really a case of looking for who has a good rate,
I'd recommend staying on the west side of London. Post up what you find if you are unsure and we'll help.

On the other end - these two are central and under 100 per room per night with good ratings on this site. Not stayed at either though.

How is the location of the Novotel in Greenwich?

Greenwich is a distance from the centre - about 35 minutes on the underground from Oxford Circus.

Worth looking at the Novotel at Lambeth Palace; (near Waterloo Station). The hotel is just a few metres from the River Thames by Lambeth Bridge. 15 Minute walk along the river to the Houses of Parlaiment and 20 minute walk from St James Park. The hotel also has a secure underground car park.
Ask for a room at the front of the hotel as you get much better views.
