On the Zetec it can get down onto the plugs & cause issues.

I wouldn't have thought so.(The only problems seem to occur on the Zetec and Duratec engines, is if water is allowed to lay around the spark plugs for an extented period of time) However, having covered his car, the man in question then spent a worrying amount of time combing his hair and trying to be nice to the lovely Lady Budster. Her comment about him as we walked away, is best left unprinted,

Merchant banker by any chance?

You could always say you specified fewer louvres to reduce air resistance across the bonnet (aerodynamic gain) and increase the underbonnet pressure (greater induction air flow)somestick

You just have to go and have a look, don't you? Mine has 8 down the side, but 29 on the bonnet. 29? crazy3 Strange but true.

When I first visited the factory in the early '70s, you could just wander around and talk to the workers. My wife and I stopped at the station where a man was stamping louvers in bonnets. The stamp machine was a very large, tall, hand-powered cast-iron press. The man would take an un-finished bonnet, place a crude looking template on it, measure and mark each louver location with a black marking pen. He would then place the bonnet in the machine and pull the long handle, punching each louver separately, one at a time, lining it up by eye to match his marks.

We asked him how many louvers he should punch on each bonnet, and he replied, "Oh, I don't rightly know--just how ever many I feel like today." Don't know if this is true, partly true, or if he told everyone that.

Maybe this is the answer to your louver question.

I can bring a little consistency, my 1980 four seater 4/4 has the same configuration.

I seem to remember the bonnet louvre stamping machine and its operator featured in the original Sir John Harvey-Jones Troubleshooter documentary. I'll dig it out and look.
