I'm looking to buy an Aero 8 GTN (although I know my chances of finding one are very slim! Does anyone know how many are in the UK?) I test drove the one Allon White had a few months back but due to a new business venture, I couldn't stretch myself that much at the time If anyone hears of one for sale, please do let me know!!

Failing that, I'm after a Series 1 (I love the bug eyed look ) with a two-tone paint job.

The GTN you drove is now based in Windsor with a collector..

As for a two tone.. there is a Blue and Silver one at Richard Thorne's it's a Series 1 however it has an interim style bolt on wheels.

As for other GTN's there is one that is with a semi-dealer who tends to trade his cars on very frequently. He's had it nearly a year so may be on the market in the next 12-18 months.

Other than that... Allon White has 2 early cars (silver and green) and Brands Hatch Morgans have two later examples... 2003 again with the later interim wheels and another darker green 2002 example.

There is probably 3 people on here who are waiting for S1's to come up... although you are the only one I know of who is after a two tone.

Hi Sarah and welcome

As you may already know, MMC planned to product 15 Aero GTNs but in the end only produced 11. Number 11 is currently owned by a member of this forum whos User Name is GTN (funny that ).

There have been two up for sale in the last 24-months - one LHD that seemed to stick around for a fair few months and the one you mentioned (RHD), which sold relatively quickly. Both were asking circa mid-£50k.

There are a few S1 Areos floating around with GTN bits fitted (front lower bumpers with brake ducts, etc), so depending on what it is about the GTN that you like, you could always modify a nice Series 1 Aero 8 to attain similar asthetics.

So, what is it that that you like about the GTN and perhaps we can help rule it in or out!

I think it was the whole package - it just had so much wow factor! I love the fact it was a hard top and even though I dug around, there didn't seem to be a definitive answer as to whether I could (easily) put a hard top on a Series 1 or not. The noise was absolutely awesome and I loved the side exhausts (although I know you can do this with the standard Aero 8s), plus I loved the two-tone paint job with the black wheels.

I know I could probably modify a standard series 1 but I haven't seen one yet that's made me go 'wow' as much as the GTN. Having said that, having had a look through the classifieds earlier I've seen a couple of really tempting Series 1s so I'm planning to take a trip down to a couple of dealers in the near future so you never know

Sarah, the RTCC car is the closest to a GTN and yes, I am sure MMC would fit a LeMans Blue hardtop to the car should you wish. The previous owner of that car (in fact the first owner) is a member of this forum, so should you wish background info, I'm sure he would be happy to assit.

As for the GTN hardtop, as far as I know, the GTN roof is removable (like the Lotus Exige people often believe the roof is fixed but it isn't).

The only thing you will not get on the S1 is the 4.6 Alpina engine - which is one amazing powerplant

However, you could compensate by tuning the 4.4 in the S1 and there are plenty of routes to take to achieve positive gains. Nevertheless, even in stock trim the S1 is no sloutch.

Black wheels - also do-able, although I don't think you'd want to paint the magnesium OZ wheels, on a stock S1, as they are so valuable now and hard to replace.

Anyway, it sounds like you've got a good idea of what you'd like and I'm sure you'll make the right choice. Don't forget that if you need help spending your money, we're here to help (and very good at it )
