Mileage mystery continues! I was wary of using the car because of charging problem but did go for a short run yesterday after fully charging it , everything seemed fine ,voltage showing 14.4 to start with them settled to 12 ish. Decided to use it this morning and it had held charge and started fine ,although did flash up'low' . But mileage had gone back to 3998 ! Nocturnal driver must have done a lot of reversing ! Anyway, did 12 mile journey with one stop and everything working fine ,now reads 4010.

Well I've heard of pre-selector gearboxes but not pre-selector speedos!

Definitly not a case of confusing the mileage with the clock or the trip meter? Believe it or not I've done something similar...

Pretty sure I didn't confuse the readings as son witnessed it each time and none of other functions had similar numbers, done another 30 miles and all seems OK apart from voltage flashing 'low' each time I turn it on. Oh well , be interesting if anything is revealed in the service tomorrow.

I believe that the wandering readings are due to the voltage fluctuating on the low end. When my regulator went and the voltage did its steady drop, at a certain point it would lose its mind and the readings were all over the place.
When the voltage drops below 11.0 volts it will shut the engine down as a safety feature. Its probably more that the computer running the EFI goes down then the engine is starved for fuel and quits.
Ever since I replaced the regulator with the H-D unit, everything is stable and charged.
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

Krazy Horse replaced my regulator with one from a car in the show room, it now shows 14+ v all the time while driving. They have made a note of Harley part number incase its needed.

quick update/heads up. turns out morgan is requesting my faulty regulator for the warranty claim. fortunately the shop that did the work a couple weeks ago was able to find it in their trash.
so note to all future owners of faulty regulators, keep the dead ones for when morgan inevitably asks for them to be returned in order to pay the warranty claim.
not ideal but at least you all have fair warning now
on a lighter note, the replacement HD unit works like a charm!

My "new" regulator has died! This was fitted at the Factory 20/6/13 "as a precaution" BTW the original 3 stud was working perfectly. Now the new was has packed up!! Aggggghhhhhh What a pain - back to factory - for its 5th return visit!!!
