Hi Colin - I'm sure Jay's recommendation of the shorter final drive rear axle for the Ford gearbox 4/4 is a good one, as this box has ratios that are otherwise a touch too high in my opinion, esp. 5th

However, after Summer 2012 4/4s came with a Mazda MX5 gearbox on which the ratios suit the engine well in my view (added to which the shift is a lot sweeter to use, so you don't mind being very busy with the gearbox).

I would endorse Jay's views on the Sigma being a smooth engine that loves revving. I was initially surprised that having driven all of the (recent) engine range in the Trad models, the humble 1.6 was the one that I had the most fun extracting the performance from.

Thanks for the info on the 1.6. There was one in the local dealers, might ask to a test ride. It's white with black wheels and grill though, not my favourite :o/

I'm with you Dave. I like the colour but would loose the black bonnet stripe and grill straight away. I think, much as I like the stainless wires, the black wires are not too bad on the yellow car.

If you go to Christopher Neil's Colin, ask for Steve or Tom. I was there on Saturday.

Hi Taffmog, I did go but was unsuccessful trying to find you, no one knew "Taffmog" and I didn't have your first name. Did you go?

Colin
I've only just picked on this thread after 2 weeks in France in my 2003 - 4/4 (1800 Zetec)
As you will now have realised, chosing a Morgan can be a "challenge"
I am lucky enough to have driven most of the 4/4 and +4 range from recent years.
In summary:
4/4 Sigma - Lovely revvy engine; MX5 gearbox is a delight; lacks torque.
4/4 Zetec - Good solid engine; torquey; LT95 gearbox is somewhat "agricultural"
+4 Duratec - Smooth, even power delivery.
+4 Rover T16 - Good power delivery but dated and spares becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.

My choice? I would love to own a 4/4 Anniversary with the 2.0 litre Duratec.
My advice? Try as many as you can, because it is not just the engines that vary. You also have a choice of seats, hoods. bumpers; etc etc . . . but don't give up, because once you have made your choice you will love it.
