Awesome place and the standards are the tops.
He had an Alfa being hand built there - at the time as well as many Bentleys, a Bugatti type 35.

Fantastic to see such craftsmanship being practiced in this country still.
That Blue Train car is something else.

Go on then, I will ask why Blue Train?

I like how they were used as police cars in Western Australia.

What did we do before Wiki.

I think you are a little harsh in your judgement of modern Alfas. I had from new a P reg 2 litre twin spark GTV. It was a great drive with a beautiful engine and to this day I think it a most beautiful looking motor car. It did have some build quality issues but no rattle which couldn't be fixed with a strategically placed matchstick and it's true the aerial dropped off on the M1 and it developed a worrying clunk from the drive train on moving off which needed advice from Italy before it could be cured. But it never rusted ( perhaps because it's whole beautifully crafted front was glass fibre!)

It was a far more attractive car than the Audi TT jelly mould I traded it for.
I wouldn't have missed owning it for the world.

If they made the boat tailed spyder now, they would sell - and I could be tempted. That's the pity. That model may have been the last Alfa with real character. The Suds had it but wow did they rot. I also love the small saloons from the sixties............

Alfasud, one could literally translate as Southern Alfa, was the result of an Italian government initiative that forced Fiat into opening a factory in southern Italy to give work to the region. In effect they finished up employing a lot of inexperienced people who had no real interest other than gaining an income for the least possible effort. It is absolutely no wonder that they had quality control disasters. The factory still exists and quality has improved enourmously but it continues to be a thorn in the side for Fiat, mainly over disputes with the workforce, despite continually acheiving awards for efficient production and study visits by experts from all around the world.

Currently produces the Panda range.

I rather liked the Alfasuds...particularly the three door models like the Ti. They went off my radar when they did that tie up with Nissan sick2
