Before it is shipped tell Morgan that you are concerned because you do not yet have a dealer and ask them to be extra carefull that everything is 100% correct.

A MUST

To get to the oil for the bevel box,you lift the cover for the rear wheel and fill the oil, what type of oil?
The engine oil you also fill it up? Or are there full levels on the canisters?

Dear all,

I am new to this forum. My intention until yesterday was to introduce myself, then add some praise of this fantastic little vehicle the 3 wheeler has proven to be in the first week since I received it...

Unfortunately, my bevel box has also decided to commit suicide, with about 2 seconds warning in the form of strange noises - resulting in a blocking rear wheel and a spectacular 180 degree turn in dense traffic.

Luckily, the elderly guy driving behind me was fully alert and stopped his Merc with about one meter (3ft) to spare. I could look into his wide open eyes. I am sure mine were as wide as his...

As I was on the way to my dealer and had almost reached my destination, rescue was prompt - the 3 wheeler was on the workshop hoist in no time, and the diagnosis clear.
On the hoist next to it sat another 3 wheeler with bevel box problems...

Jokes aside, these bevel boxes are not only a nuisance (minor or major), but can become a safety issue. I will express this concern in no uncertain terms to my dealer, and ask him to forward my mail to the factory.

But - I still want my vehicle back ASAP!

Carsten, that is frightening, it's bad enough that we put up with a bevel box that sounds as if it is full of loose nuts, but if it actually is, and seizes it is certainly not acceptable. Were there any warning signs before it seized?

If it was me, I would be writing direct to the Managing Director, Mr. Morris I believe, with a copy to your local dealer, and whilst writing, please ask him what the company intends to do about the bump steer.

Welcome to TM, I'm only sorry your first post carries such bad and frightening news.

Yes, welcome to Talk Morgan, it is unfortunate that this has happened to you but at least everyone came out of it OK! Thanks for sharing your experience with us though; it is good to be aware of what can, and has, gone wrong for others. I hope this is thoroughly and fairly rectified for you in a timely manner.

Paul, thanks for your kind words. It was frightening indeed...

As my 3 wheeler is only one week old, it still makes all kind of noises. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, but can of course not be sure if this or one of the many noises should have alarmed me.... None did.

Suddenly there was this loud noise, and within 2 seconds, before I could pull over and stop, the rear wheel already seized (as seems to be the correct wording in English).

In short, no warning signs. What is worse, I still do not know what I could have done differently. De-clutching would not help, sharp braking was out of the question because of heavy traffic, and I doubt the best driving school could have prepared me for a sized rear wheel.
Any suggestions from the more knowledgeable members how to prepare others for such an event?

Paul, I am really looking forward to submit more positive posts, hopefully in the near future. I really adore this little vehicle....

Think I was very lucky compared to Carsten as I was on an open road, doing around 40/50mph when my bevel box failed. All I experienced was a loud rattly noise like a shredded tyre flapping against the bodywork and then a real harsh scraping sound, like dragging a road cone (which it also felt like).

Now fitted with a replacement bevel box and it ran great again on the drive home from the dealers joy

Some other good news - my Morgan Rescue information and Emergency contact info arrived in the post today. Just a shame it didn't arrive a week earlier......

Here is a pic of the offending item. The dealer didn't strip it down, but thought it was a collapsed bearing. It still rotates, but grinds.
