Only difference was at the battery terminal, where the supplied lead has a very small inner diameter receiver washer. I just cut it off and stripped the wire so as to solder it with a good quality silver solder so as to make sure that all the wires in the cable were connecting. Then I bent it around the post and synched it down. That's it! One doesn't even need to do that but I am anal retentive as well as having the ability to build my own HiFi gear from scratch so the the electrical bits just work!

I also tested the ground connection before I even ripped the original C. R. Electric unit off and found that the ground was just fine. Unit was dead on arrival (DOA).

To reiterate, all else just plugs in.

That's the one! The build date should be more recent but that is really not important as this is a very simple circuit using diodes to do the dirty work.

Again, You really don't have to stock parts as this is a very common replacement part as stocked by Harley-Davidson. You might get lucky! The stock C.R. Electric unit may just do the job without a quibble, or not...

Just remember to use the Voltmeter built-in on the speedometer to check up on it. It will become apparent.

Thanks for the well-meaning push. I'm not waiting for perfection - just being realistic about my situation. I'm lucky enough to own a number of cars including three Morgans already, two of which are still in their 'fettling cycle' and I'm just not sure I have the time or patience to take on a model with design/reliability issues that are likely to be ironed out during production changes. So patience could pay off quickly. On the other hand, since my other fun cars include an (original) Mini and a Land Rover, I am used to cars where there is always something not working quite as it should...
