When I collected my M3W on 1st December 2012 it was -3C (26F in old money) and apart from losing any feeling in my right hand it was a great rural 35 mile ride home to London. I later found out that if I grabbed the exhaust pipe my hand quickly warmed up so problem solved. Yesterday I went on a 70 mile drive around the home counties North of London in the hottest day here for 7 years, an incredible 34C/93F as well as 80% humidity. I found that as long as I drove at +50 mph it was quite comfortable as long as I wore my Morgan 3 wheeler leather helmet and tinted aviator goggles. To those that think this car impracticable and just a toy this proves them totally wrong, of course it has it's faults but this also gives it a lot of character. The best bit was when I was overtaken at 70mph by a convertible Ferrari driver who gave me the thumbs up, I bet I was having more fun than him!

We had five days in a row last week with highs above 95° f (35° c) with high humidity and heat index well above 100°.

Yeah, it's been like that here for the last week too. Last night it built up to an incredible series of thunderstorms with some very high winds in some places: 66 kmh not far from where I keep my boat. Unfortunately the sad news this morning is that someone lost their life in a boating incident last night when their boat was capsized by the high wind and waves. This morning dawned clear, calm and cool. I took the Mog the 15 km to check on our sail boat, no damage, but it was amazingly cool. I was feeling quite cold in shorts and a t'shirt. The forecast is for a heat wave that is arriving from Africa with temperatures up into the 40s. Too hot for comfortable Mogging during daylight hours

You never thought wrapping the exhaust only underneth the heat shield?

When my hand were really cold and I had leather gloves on I warmed them on the unprotected exhaust pipe, when my hand was slightly cold I used the heat shield. My only problem was when I was wearing some ski gloves with some rubber grips and these melted on the unprotected exhaust pipe and took an age to remove the burnt rubber residue when the pipe was cold.

I did the same in Norway took a good few minutes for me to realise with some nicely toasted fingers.

I bought a pair of motorbike gloves to meet the ACU requirement for competition. However, they make jolly good general three wheeler driving gloves as the palm is quite thin leather, but the rest is armoured - label claims kevlar. So they are reasonably warm, good enough to use when visiting a pub do for 1st January

You never thought wrapping the exhaust only underneth the heat shield? No, I have not had any reason to do so.
