Much to my dismay, gloomy My car is currently on the for sale page here and over on Pistonheads. This evening a chap phoned up who apparently sources UK cars for clients in australia. I didn't get his name as the kids were at war in the background viking , but confirmed some details and he is apparently going to chat to his client and potentially view at the weekend.

Anyone had any such dealings? or are any of our colonial posters aware of such a service?

How best to check credentials?

Sawman,

If he is acting independantly then it may be difficult, but if he does it reguarly then I am sure one of the MCA members will have heard of him.

Usually used car brokers in Australia are licenced. so if you ask if they have a dealers/brokers licence you could check that way.

I have noticed that there are also a lot of scammers answering for sale ads now. They generally have an excuuse why they cannot get to see you before they buy and try to do deals through dodgy PayPal accounts.
My advice, is dont let anything go until you have the money in your bank, not a PayPal escrow account.

Good luck with the sale.

Cheers Graeme, Thats helpful, I'll ask about a licence if things move any further. By the sound of it, he may be based in the UK and acting for parties downunder, which I suppose might put him outside licensing jurisdiction?

I wont be letting anything go until I have a large pile of cash on the cashiers desk at the bank (and even then it will be a struggle!)

I have seen the business Richard mentions - I think this is probably it....they advertise in the Australian classic car magazines from time-to-time. I know nothing about them either, have only seen the advertisements

Global Classic Cars has been around for a while but I have had no dealings with them and have heard no comment either way. I am happy to make some enquiries of the more experienced members of the Morgan Owners Club of Australia and let you know. There is reasonable demand for good quality second hand Morgans so the interest may well be entirely legitimate.

I am fairly sure a member of the Owner's Club in WA sold her UK car to them prior to emigrating.

Best thing to do is too ask for details of previous owners who have sold their cars through the agent and chat to them.
